Baseball comes from behind to beat Albion
KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College baseball team scored seven runs in the
final three innings to defeat visiting Albion College, 8-7.
Kalamazoo tied the score in the bottom of the eighth, and managed to escape
a serious threat in the top of the ninth when Albion had bases loaded with
one out. Steve Lucas reached on a throwing error and advanced to second
to lead off the bottom of the ninth. Brent LeVasseur placed a sacrifice
bunt down the first base line which forced the pitcher to throw around
him. The first baseman caught the ball and LeVasseur at the same time and
the ball popped loose allowing the winning run to score from second.
Ben Tucker earned his second consecutive complete-game win. He pitched
nine innings, striking out five and walking two while allowing only two
earned runs.
Kalamazoo had 13 hits to Albion's 12. T.J. Thayer tied the game in the
eighth with a two-run home run to left field. Brent LeVasseur, Jim Izeluk,
and Dave Adamji joined Thayer with two hits each. Jim Hurd also had two
RBIs.
