Baseball loses slugfest to Alma

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost an MIAA contest 25-22 today at Woodworth Field in Kalamazoo. The two teams combined for 47 runs on 42 hits (21 each). Nine pitchers faced 115 batters. The nine-inning game lasted three hours and 45 minutes.

Jeff Dillingham led Kalamazoo with four hits (4-7) and three RBI's. Joe Botke scored four times and drove in four runs while going 3-for-5. Todd Wilson also drove in four runs. Joe Botke and T.J. Thayer each homered.

Alma's Nick Bolhouse had nine RBI's in the game and needed only a double to hit for the cycle. He had a three-run home run in the fourth and a three-run triple in the eighth. Andy Meteer (4-7) and Jim Bouchard (4-6) each had four hits.

Andrew Merchant (2-0) picked up the win for Alma. Ben Farkas (0-2) suffered the loss for Kalamazoo.

Kalamazoo took a 7-0 lead with seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. Alma scored four in the top of the third but Kalamazoo answered with four in the bottom half of the inning. Alma chipped away at the lead in the fifth and sixth innings and exploded for six runs in the seventh and four in the eighth to take the lead for good.

The two teams return to action on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
