Jake Hansen selected to All-MIAA Baseball Team
Jake Hansen, a senior first baseman from Northville (Detroit Catholic Central), was selected to the 2012 All-MIAA First Team as announced by the league on Wednesday. Hansen hit .284 in league play with 21 hits in 74 at-bats. He was second in the league with seven doubles while scoring nine runs with six RBIs.

Overall, Hansen hit .301 this season with 34 hits in 113 at-bats. He had 10 doubles, one home run and 15 RBIs.

Hansen finished his career with a .335 batting average, ranking eighth in school history. He finished second in career hits (149), second in doubles (28) and fourth in RBIs (67).

The Kalamazoo College baseball team finished fifth in the MIAA this season while recording the third-highest overall win total (16) in school history.

Baseball ends season with split at Olivet to finish fifth in MIAA
The baseball team completed the 2012 season with a doubleheader split at Olivet on Saturday, May 5. Kalamazoo scored twice in the first and twice in the second to take a 4-0 lead in the opener. Olivet made it 4-1 with a run in the sixth, but the Hornets added two more runs in the seventh before closing out the 6-1 win. Kalamazoo had 12 hits in the game led by David Kamerman, Drew Ordakowski and Brett Thomas with two hits apiece. Jake Hansen, Marc Zughaib and Alex Crook each had a double. Ordakowski had two RBIs while also earning the win on the mound. Adam McDowell picked up his fifth save of the season.

Olivet won the second game, 9-1. The Comets scored three runs in the first and six in the second while holding Kalamazoo to just a single run in the second. Alex Crook was 2-for-3 with a double.

Kalamazoo's win in the first game moved the Hornets into fifth place in the MIAA. The team's 16 wins is the third highest total in school history. Game One - Game Two

Baseball sweeps Olivet in home finale
The baseball team won both games of a doubleheader over Olivet, 6-3 and 2-0, in the 2012 home finale at Homer Stryker Field on Friday, May 4. Kalamazoo trailed 2-1 in the fifth inning of the opener before Drew Ordakowski's three-run home run put the Hornets up 4-2. Kalamazoo scored two more runs in the sixth to make it 6-2. The Comets added a run in the seventh before Tommy Carion closed out the complete game win. David Kamerman and Eric Glanz each had a pair of hits in the game while Alex Crook doubled.

In game two, Kalamazoo scored two runs in the third inning and that was all the Hornets would need as Jake Holloway pitched a shutout. The Comets had a runner on third base in each of the first two innings, but did not get past second base over the final five innings. Mike Murray was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Hornets' offensive effort. The two teams conclude the series at Olivet beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Game One - Game Two

Baseball drops doubleheader to Holy Cross
The baseball team lost a pair of non-conference games to Holy Cross College at home on Tuesday, May 1, losing 4-2 in eight innings in the opener and 7-6 in the second game. Holy Cross took a 2-1 lead in the third inning of the first game. Neither team scored until the seventh when the Hornets scored a run in the bottom half to tie the score at 2-2 and send it into extra innings. Holy Cross scored two runs in the top of the eighth and held Kalamazoo scoreless in the bottom half for the win. Holy Cross had six hits to Kalamazoo's five. The Hornets were aided by five walks and a hit batter, but left 10 runners on base in the game. Drew Ordakowski was 2-for-3 with a double. Mike Murray also had a double.

In the second game, Holy Cross took a 6-0 lead in the top of the third before Kalamazoo scored a pair of runs in the bottom half to make it 6-2. The visiting Saints scored another run in the seventh to go up 7-2. Kalamazoo scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it 7-6, but the tying run was stranded on second base with a line out to shortstop that ended the game. Kalamazoo had 10 hits in the game compared to eight for Holy Cross. Each team left nine runners on base. Eric Glanz and Mickey Amboyan both had two hits. Mike McCann had a double while Alex Crook drove in two runs. The Hornets return to action this Friday, May 4, hosting Olivet in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Game One - Game Two

Baseball falls at home to Trine
The baseball team lost 8-3 and 3-2 to Trine in Kalamazoo on Sunday, April 29. Trine scored four runs in the first inning of the opener before taking a 7-0 lead into the fifth. Kalamazoo scored three runs in the bottom half, but could not get any closer as Trine finished with the 8-3 win. The visiting Thunder had 11 hits in the game while Kalamazoo finished with four. Mike Murray was 2-for-3 for the Hornets.

Trine took a 3-0 lead in game two before Kalamazoo scored in the second and third innings to make it a 3-2 game. Neither team scored over the final four innings as Trine held on for the 3-2 win. Mike McCann had a double for Kalamazoo as the Hornets finished with four hits. Kalamazoo is scheduled to host Holy Cross College in a non-conference doubleheader at Homer Stryker Field on Tuesday, May 1 at 2 p.m. Game One - Game Two

Baseball drops doubleheader at Trine
The baseball team lost a pair of games at Trine, 4-3 and 6-1, on Saturday, April 28. In the opener, Trine's four-run first inning proved to be enough for the host Thunder. Kalamazoo scored two runs in the third and one in the fifth, but the Hornets were unable to tie or pull ahead while leaving seven runners on base in the game. Kalamazoo had eight hits in the game compared to six for Trine. Mike Murray, Tim Lynch and Mike McCann each had two hits. Lynch, Drew Ordakowski and Brett Thomas each had a double while Thomas drove in a pair of runs.

Kalamazoo scored a run in the top of the first in the second game, but Trine scored at least one run in five of six innings to win the second game, 6-1. Kalamazoo was held to three hits while Trine had eight. Drew Ordakowski and Eric Glanz both doubled for Kalamazoo while Brett Thomas drove in the Hornets' only run. The two teams wrap up the series on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. in Kalamazoo at Western Michigan University's Hyames Field. Game One - Game Two

Baseball defeated at No. 14 Adrian
The baseball team lost a pair of games, 11-0 and 2-1, at No.14 Adrian on Sunday, April 22. Adrian scored in each of the first four innings in the opener, including a seven-run fourth en route to the 11-0 win. Kalamazoo had six hits in the game while stranding 10 runners on base. Brett Thomas led the offensive effort going 2-for-2. In the second game, each team scored a run in the second inning and the score remained tied through five innings. Adrian pulled ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth and ended the Hornets' threat in the top of the seventh to secure the win. Four Hornets had a hit in the game, including a double by David Kamerman. Kalamazoo left five runners on base. Kalamazoo returns to action with a doubleheader at Trine on Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m. Game One - Game Two

Baseball falls to No. 14 Adrian
The baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to No. 14 Adrian at Homer Stryker Field on Saturday, April 21. Kalamazoo held a 4-1 lead after the third inning in the opener, but Adrian scored a run in the fourth before taking the lead with four runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Kalamazoo added a run in the bottom of the sixth but came up short in the 8-5 defeat. Eric Glanz was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Mike Murray was 2-for-3 with a double, home run and two RBIs. In the second game, Adrian scored runs in each of the first four innings to take a 6-1 lead. The Bulldogs added three runs in the seventh before closing out the 9-1 win. Glanz was 2-for-2 with a solo home run in the second. The teams conclude the series with a doubleheader at Adrian on Sunday, April 22 at 1 p.m. Game One - Game Two

Baseball sweeps doubleheader at Alma
The baseball team swept a doubleheader at Alma on Sunday, winning 10-3 and 7-6. The wins put Kalamazoo just a game out of third place in the league standings. In the first game on Sunday, Kalamazoo scored four runs in the first inning. Alma chipped away and made it a 4-3 game after the fifth inning, but Kalamazoo added a run in the sixth and tacked on five more in the seventh to take the 10-3 win. Kalamazoo had 14 hits in the game with David Kamerman, Drew Ordakowski and Eric Glanz having three apiece. Ordakowski and Tim Lynch each drove in a pair of runs. Jake Holloway earned the win in four innings of work while Tommy Carion held Alma scoreless over the final three innings to earn the save.

Kalamazoo took an early lead again in the second game with a run in the first, two in the third and another in the fourth. Alma used a four-run fifth inning to even the score at 4-4, but Kalamazoo scored two more in the sixth and another in the seventh to take a 7-4 lead. Alma scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run on base before Kalamazoo closed out the 7-6 win. Kalamazoo had 12 hits in the game led by Jake Hansen's 3-for-4 effort with a double and two RBIs. Mickey Amboyan and Eric Glanz each had two hits. Drew Ordakowski earned the win in five innings of work while Tommy Carion pitched the final two innings to earn his second save of the day. Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday as the Hornets host league-leading Adrian in a doubleheader at Homer Stryker Field beginning at 1 p.m. Game One - Game Two

Baseball splits home doubleheader with Alma
The baseball team split a home doubleheader with Alma on Saturday, April 14, falling 9-5 in the first game before winning 4-1 in the second game. Alma scored a run in the first and added five runs in the third to take a 6-0 lead. Kalamazoo responded with three runs in the bottom of the third, but Alma added another run in the third and two more in the seventh to lead 9-3. Kalamazoo scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, but Alma was able to close out the 9-5 win. Six different Hornets had a hit in the game. Brett Thomas drove in three runs with a double.

In the second game, Alma took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first, but Kalamazoo captured the lead with three runs in the second. The Hornets added a run in the fourth before closing out the 4-1 win. Matt Beck allowed just one hit over five innings to earn the win. Jake Holloway retired all six batters he faced in the sixth and seventh for the save. Mickey Amboyan was 3-for-3 with a triple while Eric Glanz went 2-for-3 with a double. The two teams are scheduled to complete the series with a doubleheader at Alma on Sunday at 1 p.m. Game One - Game Two

Baseball splits Saturday doubleheader with Calvin
Ordakowski's home run puts Kalamazoo on top
The baseball team split a doubleheader with Calvin at Homer Stryker Field on Saturday, winning 5-4 before falling 7-1. Calvin scored three runs in the first inning before taking a 4-0 run lead in the fourth. Kalamazoo battled back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth before taking the lead on Drew Ordakowski's two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. Jake Holloway allowed three earned runs in six and two-thirds innings while Adam McDowell recorded the final out for his fourth save of the season. Ordakowski was 2-for-3 in the game while Mike Murray had a triple and two RBIs.

The Hornets were held to two hits in a 7-1 loss in the second game. Calvin led 2-1 after the second before adding runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings. Eric Glanz's double drove in the Hornets' only run of the game. Kalamazoo returns to action with a doubleheader against Alma at Homer Stryker Field next Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m. Game One - Game Two

Carion takes perfect game into sixth inning
The baseball team split a doubleheader at Calvin on Friday, April 6, losing 7-3 in the opener before winning 11-2. Calvin led 3-0 after the second inning of the first game, but the Hornets scored a pair of runs in the fourth and another run in the sixth to tie the score at 3-3. Calvin responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth before closing out the 7-3 win. Eric Glanz, Mike Murray and Mike McCann each had a hit for Kalamazoo.

In the second game, Kalamazoo scored three runs in the second and seven in the third to take a 10-0 lead. Tommy Carion took a perfect game into the sixth inning before a pair of Kalamazoo errors gave way to the first Calvin hit of the game. The Knights scored two unearned runs in the inning and finished the game with three hits. Carion finished the game with three strikeouts and and no walks. Kalamazoo had 10 hits in the game led by Brett Thomas' 3-for-3 effort with three RBIs and two runs scored. Jake Hansen, Mike Murray and Mickey Amboyan each had two hits. Amboyan also drove in three runs. Kalamazoo and Calvin wrap up the series with a doubleheader at Homer Stryker Field in Kalamazoo at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Game One - Game Two

The baseball team swept a doubleheader over Finlandia on Thursday, April 5 at Homer Stryker Field, winning 13-8 and 5-4. After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first in game one, Kalamazoo tied the score with three runs in the bottom half. Kalamazoo scored six runs in the second inning to take a 9-3 lead before adding four more runs over the next three innings to lead 13-3. Finlandia scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh before the Hornets closed out the 13-8 win. Drew Ordakowski earned the win on the mound in five innings of work. Jake Hansen and Mike McCann each had two hits while McCann and Marc Zughaib each had a pair of RBIs.

Kalamazoo fell behind 1-0 in the first inning of the second game before taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom half. The Hornets added a run in the third and another in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead into the seventh inning. Finlandia got the first two runners on base before hitting a three run home run with one out to tie the game at 4-4. Alex Crook led off the bottom of the seventh with a base hit and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. A pair of walks loaded the bases for Eric Glanz who hit a shot over the centerfielder's head to drive in the game-winning run. Jake Hansen was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Crook had a pair of hits while Glanz finished with two RBIs. Kalamazoo returns to MIAA competition with a doubleheader at Calvin on Friday followed by a home doubleheader with Calvin at Homer Stryker Field on Saturday at 1 p.m. Game One - Game Two

The baseball team split a doubleheader at Holy Cross College on Sunday, April 1. After taking an early 2-1 lead in the first game, Kalamazoo trailed 4-2 after four innings and 5-4 after five. Tim Lynch tied the ball game at 5-5 in the seventh after scoring on a pair of wild pitches following his leadoff double. The Hornets added three more runs to take the 8-5 lead before Adam McDowell earned his third save of the season by retiring all three batters in the bottom of the seventh. Kalamazoo had 15 hits in the game while Lynch led the way going 3-for-4. David Kamerman, Jake Hansen, Brett Thomas, Eric Glanz and Mike Murray each had two hits. Kamerman had two RBIs. In the second game, Kalamazoo trailed 3-0 after the third inning before scoring a pair of runs in the fourth. The Hornets got a runner to second base in the fifth, but couldn't get past first base in the sixth or seventh leading to the 3-2 defeat. Each team had four hits in the game. Mickey Amboyan was 2-for-2 for the Hornets. Kalamazoo returns home to host Finlandia in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 5 at Homer Stryker Field at 2 p.m. Game One - Game Two

The baseball team lost to Hope 2-0 and 12-2 at home on Saturday, March 31. Hope's two runs in the top of the first were enough in the opener as the Hornets were shutout despite outhitting Hope, 9-5. Drew Ordakowski and Alex Crook were both 3-for-3 while Jake Hansen went 2-for-3 with a double. In the second game, Kalamazoo led 2-1 after three innings, but Hope scored six runs in the fourth and added five more in the sixth for the 12-2 win. The Flying Dutchmen outhit Kalamazoo, 12-7. Brett Thomas was 2-for-2 while David Kamerman had a double for Kalamazoo. The Hornets return to action with a non-conference doubleheader against Holy Cross College in South Bend on Sunday at 1 p.m. Game One - Game Two

Carion throws four-hit shutout in second game
The baseball team split a doubleheader at Hope on Thursday, March 29, falling 2-1 in the opener before winning the second game, 2-0. In the first game, Kalamazoo scored a run in the fifth and took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh where Hope scored a pair of runs, including a game-ending single with the bases loaded to win the game. Each team had four hits in the game. Alex Crook drove in Kalamazoo's only run with a triple.

Tommy Carion threw a four-hit shutout in the second game as the Hornets won, 2-0. Kalamazoo scored a run in the third and added an insurance run in the sixth. Besides loading the bases in the third inning, Carion allowed only two other base runners in the game. Carion allowed just four hits while striking out four and walking one. Kalamazoo had seven hits in the game. Drew Ordakowski was 2-for-3 while Jake Hansen had a double. The two teams complete the series with a doubleheader at Homer Stryker Field in Kalamazoo on Saturday at 1 p.m. Game One - Game Two

The baseball team split a doubleheader at Albion on Sunday, March 25. Kalamazoo won the opener 4-2 before falling 5-4 in the second game. The score was tied 1-1 after four innings before Kalamazoo scored three runs in the fifth to go up 4-1. Albion added a run in the bottom half and was held scoreless the rest of the way. Matt Beck pitched five innings to earn the win with Adam McDowell closing out the final two innings for the save. David Kamerman and Eric Glanz each had a pair of hits in the game. Alex Crook drove in a pair of runs in the fifth. Kalamazoo led 4-1 after five innings in the second game and held the same leading entering the bottom of the seventh. Albion scored four runs, including the game-winner with two outs. Eight different Hornets each had a hit. Jake Hansen and Scott Devine each had a double while David Kamerman hit a two-run home run in the fifth. Kalamazoo returns to action at Hope this Thursday, March 29 at 2 p.m. Game One - Game Two

Baseball loses MIAA opener to Albion
The baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Albion on Saturday, March 24 at Homer Stryker Field. Albion used a five-run first inning en route to a 9-4 win in the first game. The Britons had 12 hits in the game to Kalamazoo's seven. Jake Hansen and Mike Murray each had two hits. Drew Ordakowski hit a home run. Albion won the second game, 2-0. David Kamerman and Mike McCann each had a hit in the first inning, but the Hornets were held without a hit the rest of the game. Albion scored a run in the third and fourth innings and had four hits in the game. The two teams wrap up the series with a doubleheader in Albion on Sunday. Game One - Game Two

Baseball sweeps doubleheader over Allegheny
The baseball team won the first game of a doubleheader against Allegheny, 7-5, at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla. on Monday, March 19. Allegheny scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, but the Hornets responded with four runs in the bottom half and never trailed again. David Kamerman, Jake Hansen and Drew Ordakowski each had two hits. Hansen had three RBIs while Eric Glanz drove home a pair of runs with a double in the first. Phil Earls earned the win on the mound with Adam McDowell getting the final out of the game for the save.

Kalamazoo won the second game of the doubleheader, 7-1. Tommy Carion allowed just one hit in the first inning and held the Gators without a hit or an earned run over the final six innings while striking out three and walking none. Kalamazoo scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second, and one each in the sixth and seventh. Mickey Amboyan had two of Kalamazoo's six hits. Jake Hansen hit his first home run of the season. Kalamazoo (3-3) opens MIAA play against Albion at home on Saturday, April 24 at 1 p.m. at Homer Stryker Field. Game One - Game Two

Baseball drops doubleheader to Anderson
The baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Anderson University on Friday, March 16 in Auburndale, Fla. In the opener, Kalmazoo took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Anderson responded with three runs in the bottom half. Anderson added six runs in the third and another in the fourth en route to the 10-1 win. David Kamerman had two of Kalamazoo's eight hits. Eric Glanz drove in the Hornets' only run.

Anderson won the second game, 7-1. The Ravens scored three runs in the second and four in the seventh while holding Kalamazoo to a single run in the seventh. Kalamazoo had four hits in the game, with Tim Lynch driving in the only run. Kalamazoo returns to action with a doubleheader against Allegheny on Monday, March 19 at 10 a.m. at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla. Game One - Game Two

Baseball wins season opener in 11 innings
David Kamerman sets stolen base records
The Kalamazoo College baseball team won its season opener, 7-6, over Dickinson College (Pa.) in 11 innings on Thursday, March 15 in Lakeland, Fla. Kalamazoo took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth, but the Red Devils scored in the top of the seventh to send the game to extra innings. Each team scored a run in the eighth, and the teams remained scoreless until Kalamazoo scored the game-winner in the bottom of the 11th. David Kamerman and Tim Lynch each had three hits. Jake Hansen had three hits, including a double and two RBIs. Adam McDowell earned the win in relief, allowing just one run over four innings. McDowell also scored the game-winning run.

David Kamerman also had three stolen bases in the first game, tying a school record for stolen bases in a game and setting a new school record for stolen bases in a career (46).

Dickinson won the second game of the doubleheader, 3-1. The Hornets had five hits in the game, with Tim Lynch's double driving in the Hornets' only run of the game. Kalamazoo returns to action with a doubleheader against Anderson University on Friday at 9 a.m. in Auburndale, Fla. Game One - Game Two

Hornet Baseball picked to finish sixth in MIAA Coaches Poll
The Kalamazoo College baseball team was picked to finish sixth in the first-ever Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Coaches Poll as announced on Monday, Feb. 13. Kalamazoo and Alma actually tied for the sixth spot with 39 points apiece followed by Olivet in eighth with 46 points. Adrian was picked to repeat as league champions with nine points (5 first place) followed by Hope (11, 3 first place), Calvin (23), Adrian (24) and Trine (33). This year also marks the first time the MIAA will hold a postseason conference tournament. The four-team tournament will take place May 9-11. Kalamazoo opens the 2012 season against Dickinson College on March 15 in Lakeland, Fla. The Hornets open MIAA play at home (Homer Stryker Field) against Albion on March 24 at 1 p.m.

2012 Home Baseball Games to be played at Homer Stryker Field and Western Michigan University

With construction and renovation of the Kalamazoo College atheltic fields well underway, the Hornet baseball team will play its home games off-site this spring while the new stadium is completed.

Homer Stryker Field will host all but one of the home Kalamazoo College baseball games this spring. The April 29 doubleheader with Trine will be played at Western Michigan University's Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field.

Homer Stryker Field (Info) is located 1.9 miles east of Kalamazoo College and is approximately a seven minute drive from campus. Map/Directions (formerly Sutherland Park)

Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field (Info) is located approximately one mile west of Kalamazoo College and is about a five minute drive from campus. Parking is just west of the stadium and adjacent to Ebert Field (Softball). Map/Directions

The Hornets will return to a brand new stadium on campus next spring. The baseball field will feature natural turf with a complete drainage system, new dugouts, bleachers, press box and scoreboard. The entire athletic complex will also feature a new fieldhouse for locker rooms and athletic training facilities along with a new stadium services building that includes new restrooms and a concesion stand.

Eight Hornet Baseball players named to MIAA Academic Honor Roll
Eight members of the Kalamazoo College Baseball team were named to the 2011 MIAA Academic Honor Roll: Nick Beam, Rob Briski, Tommy Carion, Will Ferrara, Mark Fortelka, Bobby Hilliard, David Kamerman, and David Oliphant were each recognized for achieving a 3.5 GPA or higher for the entire academic year.
