MIAA golf medallist in 1934, 1935, and 1936. Only player in MIAA history in win top honors in the league three times. Also lettered in basketball.

Marion "Buck" Shane '40 - Tennis

Lost only two tennis matches in three seasons and was MIAA singles and doubles champion in 1939 and 1940.

Considered by many to be the best overall female athlete in Kalamazoo history. Three time MIAA #1 singles and #1 doubles tennis champion, 1973-1975.

Coached 24 MIAA championship teams in men's and woman's tennis, including 18 consecutive titles in men's tennis, 1936-56.

Charter Inductee: October 18, 1986

Captain of the football team of 1898, the first undefeated (7-0-0) team in Kalamazoo history. A prominent player on early teams. World War I hero for whom Westnedge Avenue in Kalamazoo is named.

Coached 14 MIAA championship teams in basketball, football, and track, including the undefeated (7-0-0) football team of 1916.

Christopher G. Burns '82 - Tennis
Inducted October 17, 1987

NCAA Division III national champion in singles as a sophomore. Won the Arthur Ashe Award as a senior. Two-time ALL-American, two-time ALL-MIAA, league MVP, team captain.
 

Bertram K. "Scotty" MacGregor '19 - Football, Basketball, Baseball
Inducted October 17,1987

Starting halfback for the undefeated football team of 1916. Scored 16 touchdowns and kicked 33 extra points for 129 points, a College record. Led Kalamazoo to two football championships, four basketball championships, and two baseball championships.
 

John C. Persons '64 - Baseball, Football
Inducted October 17, 1987

Named to the ALL-MIAA baseball team four times, the only player in league history to be so honored. MVP of the baseball team three times. Led the league in hitting in 1961. In football, he twice led the league in receptions. Also lettered in golf.
 

Clair Wight Payne '16 - Tennis
Inducted October 17, 1987

Won the MIAA woman's tennis singles championship each of her four years. League runner-up in doubles her freshman year, than won the MIAA championship the next three years. During her four years on the team (1913-1916). Kalamazoo won all four MIAA championships.
 

J. Gordon Rodwan ' 62 - Basketball
Inducted October 17, 1987

Number of records including rebounds in a season ( 228 ) and rebounds in a game (31). Finished his career as the College's leading rebounder with 668. Led the 1962 MIAA title team in scoring and rebounding, Team MVP twice, twice on all-MIAA selection.
 

Daniel J. Slattery '79 - Diving
Inducted October 17, 1987

A four-time ALL-American in both one-meter and three-meter diving. Kalamazoo's first ALL-American in swimming and diving, he never lost to an MIAA opponent. ALL-MIAA in each of his four years, and qualified for the national championships each year. Won an NCAA post-graduate scholarship.
 

Robert S. Warren '39 - Football, Basketball
Inducted October 17, 1987

In football, the starting left tackle for three years. ALL-MIAA and team MVP a a senior. Starting center in basketball his sophomore and senior year. In his senior year, the third-leading scorer in the league, leading Kalamazoo to the MIAA title.

Mike Casteel '22 - Football, Baseball, Track
Inducted October 22, 1988

Won twelve letters in three sports during his career. Led the football team to MIAA championships in 1916, 1919, and 1921, and was ALL-MIAA at quarterback three times. The shortstop on three MIAA champion baseball teams, he also helped Kalamazoo to four MIAA track titles. Went on to an outstanding football coaching career.
 

John Lambooy '37 - Track
Inducted October 22, 1988

Led Kalamazoo to MIAA indoor and outdoor track titles in 1935, 1936, and 1937. Served as team captain an unprecedented two times. In 1937, he set records of: 24.1 seconds in the 220-yard low hurdles that was never bettered.
 

Mary Westerville Prange '67 - Tennis, Field Hockey, Basketball
Inducted October 22, 1988

In tennis, her doubles team won the WMIAA championship in 1965 and 1967. Kalamazoo won three league titles while she played. In field hockey, she was the first Michigan player selected to the Great Lakes Sectional Squad. Two year captain in Basketball.
 

Charlie Stanski '50 - Football, Basketball
Inducted October 22, 1988

First post-World War II athlete named to ALL-League teams in both football and basketball. Helped Kalamazoo to MIAA football titles in 1946 and 1948, and was named the ALL-MIAA quarterback in 1948. In basketball, he was ALL-League in 1948, and led Kalamazoo to the championship in 1950.
 

Jack Sunderland '50 - Tennis
Inducted October 22, 1988

One of the outstanding players in Kalamazoo College history. Sunderland won the MIAA singles titles four times and helped the Hornets win league tennis titles four times. Along with doubles partner Vic Braden, won the league doubles title in 1949.

Robert Black '26 - Football, Basketball, Baseball
Inducted October 21, 1989

Black won a total of 12 varsity letters, possibly the most ever awarded to a Kalamazoo College athlete. The captain of the 1925 football team was a triple threat on the gridiron, often called upon to pass, punt, or carry the ball on any given play.
 

Merry Lu Jordan '82 - Archery
Inducted October 21, 1989

Arguably the best archer in the 30 year history of archery as an MIAA sport. Jordan had never touched  bow until her sophomore year, but nevertheless was the high scorer at the league tournament in 1980 and 1981.
 

Donald Spalsbury '39 - Basketball, Football, Golf
Inducted October 21, 1989

A three-time ALL-MIAA basketball selection. Spalsbury was a hero in a legendary three-way playoff for the league title in 1939. His steal and layup with five seconds remaining lifted the Hornets to victory over Hope en route to the MIAA crown.
 

Daniel Wood '40 - Football, Basketball, Track
Inducted October 21, 1989

Wood, who led the hornets to five MIAA titles, won the league's first-ever Most valuable Player award for 1939-40. In football, he played every minute of every game for three years.

William J. Oberholtzer '83 - Swimming and Diving
Inducted October 27, 1990

Selected ALL-MIAA twice in diving. Oberholtzer was a four-time ALL-American in the three-meter and a three-time ALL-American in the one-meter. In 1983, Oberholtzer won the NCAA Division III national championship on the three-meter board.
 

Lynnora Achterberg Offerdahl '83 - Swimming and Diving
Inducted October 27, 1990

Selected ALL-MIAA twice in diving. Offerdahl won the one-meter and three-meter league competitions in both 1984 and 1985. In her senior year, Offerdahl won the NCAA Division III championship on the three-meter board, becoming Kalamazoo College's first female national champion.
 

Willian S. Taylor '18 - Baseball, Basketball, Football, and Track
Inducted October 27, 1990

An extremely versatile athlete, Taylor was a member of six championship teams in three sports, including four in basketball (1914-1917). He also captained championship squads in baseball and football in 1916.

Timon Corwin '86 - Tennis
Inducted October 26, 1991

An eight-time ALL-American, Corwin led the Hornets to the 1986 NCAA Division III championship and also won the Division III singles championship that year. Corwin won the Arthur Ashe Award as a senior and was a two-time MIAA most valuable player.
 

John A. Schelske '82 - Basketball
Inducted October 26, 1991

Schelske an NCAA Division III ALL-American in 1982, remains the most prolific scorer in Hornet basketball history. Schelske dominates the College record books, holding the marks for the most points in a game, season, and career. He twice reached Academic ALL-American honor and earned an NCAA postgraduate scholarship.

Rolla L. Anderson - Director of Men's Athletics 1953-85
Inducted October 30, 1992

Under his leadership as athletic director, the College won nine MIAA all-sports titles. Coached seven championships teams in tennis, golf, cross country, and football, including the undefeated (8-0-0) football team of 1962. Named 1962 Michigan "Coach of the Year"
 

Dennis D. Bishop '76 - Wrestling
Inducted October 30, 1992

Four- time MIAA wrestling champion in his weight class. One of only six wrestlers in league history to take ALL-MIAA honors four times. Named the league's most valuable wrestler in 1973.
 

Mary Rosso Lewis '43 - Tennis
Inducted October 30, 1992

MIAA women's tennis singles champion in 1940, 1941, and 1942. One of only six women to win three or more singles titles in the history of the league.
 

Letitia A. Loveless - Director of woman's Athletics 1953-86
Inducted October 30, 1992

Most successful coach of woman's teams in the MIAA history with a total of 28 league championships: 23 in tennis, four in archery and one in field hockey. Pioneer in the development of women's athletics at Kalamazoo.
 

James E. Stefoff '53 - Baseball, Basketball, Football, and Track
Inducted October 30, 1992

All-MIAA in football in 1950 and 1951, Led the nation (small colleges) in pass receptions with 45 catches for 680 yards and five touchdowns in 1951. Received Associated Press Little ALL-America mention.

Joel J. Menges '80 - Cross Country and Track
Inducted October 29, 1993

Won MIAA cross country meets in 1976 and 1977, and was named ALL-MIAA three times 1976-78. Currently holds school  record in the three-mile, six-mile, and 5,000 meter runs, Was ranked sixth in NCAA Division III in six-mile run in 1976.
 

Alex G. Palladino '87 - Tennis
Inducted October 29, 1993

Two-time NCAA Division III doubles champion with James Burda in 1986 and 1987. MIAA singles champion in 1987 and doubles champion in 1985 and 1987. Named MIAA Most Valuable Player in 1987.
 

Lawrence A. Pfaff '73 - Football
Inducted October 29, 1993

Quarterback for the Hornets from 1969 to 1972. Ranked fourth in the NCAA College Division in total offense and 11th in pass completion percentage in 1970. Set MIAA and school records for passing yardage in a single game, season and career, and school records for total offensive yards in a game, season and career.

Laura L. Behling '89 - Basketball
Inducted October 21, 1994

Four-time ALL-MIAA and three-time league scoring champion. Set Many school records, including all-time leading scorer (1,909 points) and most points in a season (604). Also set many MIAA records, including career scoring record of 975 points.
 

Manny Glasser '54 - Basketball, Tennis
Inducted October 21, 1994

MIAA scoring champion and Most Valuable Player in 1953. Completed career holding all school scoring records, including 43 points in a single game. Set MIAA record for season scoring average of 28.3 points per game. Also three-time letter winner in tennis.
 

Richard A. Lemmer '41 - Team Physician
Inducted October 21, 1994

An excellent student-athlete in basketball, football, tennis, and track, he is most celebrated for his volunteer service as team physician for more than 25 years. Always available to "K" athletes, day or night, at home or on the road. Named "K" Hornet Club Man of the Year in 1983.
 

Marc S. Tirikian '88 - Soccer
Inducted October 21, 1994

ALL-MIAA 1984 and 1985. Set MIAA season scoring records for most goals (29) and most points (63). Also set league records for goals in a single game (10). Named first team ALL-American for NCAA Division III in 1985.

Albert L. Deal '37 - MIAA Commissioner 1971-91
Inducted October 20, 1995

Kalamazoo College football manager for four years, basketball manager for two years. MIAA commissioner during the league's most progressive period, including the uniting of the men's and woman's athletic programs. Superintendent of four school districts from 1949-1978. Received the Michigan Sport Sages' Humanitarian Award in 1991.
 

Milton "Bud" Hinga '23 - Basketball, baseball, and football
Inducted October 20, 1995

Four-year basketball player, leading scorer in 1922 and 1923. Played on MIAA basketball championship teams of 1921, 1922, and 1923. Selected to MIAA Hall of Fame in 1923. Played baseball for three years, including MIAA championship team of 1923. Holland High School coach from 1923-31. Hope College football and basketball coach, winning or tying for 14 combined MIAA titles, Athletic Director.
 

Kim E. Paterson '90 - Woman's soccer
Inducted October 20, 1995

Three time ALL-American in 1986,1987, and 1988. Ranked among top three in NCAA Division III for scoring in 1988 with 48 points. Led Kalamazoo to it's first ever NCAA III post-season appearance in 1988. Co-captain in 1989. Selected to NSCAA south-mideast regional first team in 1986, 1987, and 1988.
 

Kevin E. VandenBerg '89 - Baseball, football, and golf
Inducted October 20, 1995

Four-year letter winner in golf. League medallist in MIAA league MVP, team captain in 1987 and 1988. Second in MIAA in 1985. Four-year letter winner in baseball. ALL-MIAA shortstop in 1985; ALL-MIAA catcher, team MVP and captain in 1988 and 1989. Kalamazoo College record holder for home runs in a career(19). Two-year letter winner in football as a punter in 1986 and 1987.

Derek S. Bylsma '91 - Men's Soccer
Inducted October 11, 1996

Two-time First Team ALL-American in 1988 and 1990. League MVP in 1990. ALL-MIAA in 1987, 1988, and 1990. MIAA all-time leading scorer in 1990 (56 goals over three seasons). Co-captain of 1990 team that won College's sixth MIAA title and made College's fourth NCAA playoff appearance.
 

David W. Dame '79 - Men's Basketball
Inducted October 11, 1996

ALL-MIAA in 1977, 1978, and 1979. Leading scoring champion in 1978 (287 points, 23.9 average) and 1979 (263 points, 21.9 average). Set College records for most points (542) and field goals (233) in a season, single game scoring (42), most career field goals (660) and career points (1,619). NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient.
 

Charles C. Hall '01 - Football Coach 1897-1900
Inducted October 11, 1996

One of the founding fathers of Kalamazoo College athletics. Coached three MIAA championship football teams, including the undefeated (7-0-0) team of 1898. Captain of the 1896 football team.
 

Kathleen Dombos Schlukebir '72 - Woman's Tennis
Inducted October 11, 1996

MIAA singles and doubles (with Patti Miller) champion in 1969. Undefeated in singles and doubles during 1969 regular season. Reached third round of singles and semi-finals in doubles at 1969 USLTA Woman's National Collegiate Championships. Played at National Grass Court Championships in 1969.

Swimming Achievements: Five-time ALL-American, 1989, 1990, and 1991. ALL-MIAA and NCAA qualifier, 1989, 1990, 1991, and 1992. Team MVP, 1992. MIAA championship three years. Softball Achievements: Team MVP, 1992. Team Captain, 1992.
 

Richard P. Howrey '87 - Swimming
Inducted October 24, 1997

ALL-MIAA, 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987. League MVP, 1984. Won MIAA 1650 and 500-yard freestyle in 1984, 1986, and 1987; and MIAA 1650-yard freestyle in 1985. Set league records in 500- and 1650-yard freestyle, 1986. ALL-American, 1987.
 

Mei Zhang '92 - Volleyball

ALL-American First Team NCAA Division III 1990. League MVP, 1990 and 1991. Led Kalamazoo to first MIAA championship and NCAA playoffs, 1990. Second MIAA championship, NCAA playoffs, and team ranked third in NCAA Division III 1991.

George Acker - Coach and Professor 1959-1994
Inducted October 16, 1998

Physical Education Professor and men's tennis coach for 35 years. He coached his teams to 7 NCAA Division III Championships and 35 MIAA Championships. He coached 38 All-Americans, 19 MIAA MVPs, and 13 MIAA Stowe Sportsmanship Award winners. His tennis team posted a 209-1 MIAA career dual-meet record and an overall 537-231 record. He was named the Division III Coach of the Year in 1982 and 1991, and the NCAA Division III Coach of the Decade for the 1980's. He also coached football, wrestling, and cross-country.

MIAA singles tennis champion 1963. Flight 2 singles tennis champion 1966. Won Middle States Tennis Tournament in 1963. Three sport varsity letter winner in basketball, field hockey, and tennis.
 

James R. Burda '87 - Tennis
Inducted October 29, 1998

Two-time NCAA Division III doubles champion with Alex Palladino in 1986 and 1987. Named ALL-MIAA and winner of the MIAA doubles championship with Palladino in1987.
 

Lewis Miller '93 - Men's Tennis
Inducted October 16, 1998

NCAA Division III National Singles Champion ( 1991 and 1992 ). Member of the NCAA Division III National Championship team ( 1991, 1992, 1993 ). Four-time ALL-American in singles and two-time ALL-American in doubles. Team captain in 1992 and 1993. Undefeated senior season in singles. Member of Rolex Collegiate ALL-Star Team ( 1991, 1992, 1993 ). GTE Academic ALL-American of the Year ( 1992, 1993 ); Received the Opie Davis Award Male Athlete of the Year and the Athletic Association Award for Male Scholar Athlete of the Year from Kalamazoo College (1993) and a NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship (1993).
 

Harley R. Pierce '51 - Football
Inducted October 16, 1998

ALL-MIAA co-captain and Clark McKenzie outstanding lineman in 1950. Coached high school football teams to eight conference and one state championship. Coached high school tennis teams to 24 conference championships, 22 regional championships, and 6 state championships. Inducted into the MHSTCA and MHSFCA Hall of Fame in 1983 and the MHSTCA Hall of Fame in 1986.

Eight time ALL-American in 1992 and 1993. NCAA Division III 200 yd. butterfly champion in 1993. ALL-MIAA four years 1990-1993. League MVP in 1992 and 1993. MIAA champion in 200yd. butterfly 1990-1993. Team captain in 1993.

MIAA MVP and member of all MIAA 1st team all four years (1991-94). NCAA Division III Rookie of the Year in 1991 and NCAA Division III National Senior Player of the Year in 1994. Academic ALL-American in 1992-93 and 1993-94. Received NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 1994. Team captain for three years and played number one singles and doubles all four years.

Adrian's four-year soccer achievements included two team MVP awards, one MIAA MVP award, two All-Region and All-MIAA first team honors, selection to the GTE Academic All-American First Team, and receipt of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Award.
 

Don Flesche - Professor Emeritus of Political Science

Volunteered as public address announcer for 37 years for Kalamazoo College football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, baseball, softball, and tennis.
 

Rebecca Rifenberg Green '92 - Softball
Inducted October 18, 2002

Green earned team MVP and All-MIAA honors in three of her four seasons in Hornet softball. She holds seven school records in the sport - single season batting average, career batting average, single season runs scored, single season doubles, single season home runs, career doubles, and career home runs.
 

Gregg McDonald '97 - Football
Inducted October 18, 2002

Considered by some the most prolific passer in Kalamazoo College history, MacDonald earned numerous gridiron honors, including two team MVP awards, two All-MIAA first team honors, and the Burger King National Scholar Athlete Award. McDonald holds most of the Kalamazoo College passing records.
