Minutes from Week 8 Meeting
-- The t-shirts have a final design... white text on purple-ish
shirts, a
lambda sign on the front, Kalamazoo College Kaleidoscope on the back. $10
each. Get the money to Mike White as soon as possible.
-- Unfortunately, the support dinner has to be moved to Thursday
of Tenth
Week (December 2nd) to fit our gracious host Karyn Boatwright's busy
schedule. No worries... It'll be a great way to end Fall Quarter.
-- To compensate, we're going to have a pot luck at next Tuesday's
meeting at 6. Bring food (snacks, drinks, pumpkin pie?!). Also, the
possibility of a movie night for next Tuesday was brought up. Anybody
interested? Nothing like a movie and refreshments to get you ready for
Thanksgiving.
-- Lynn's Secret Santa idea was approved by a vote (like most
of the
above items). We'll be doing more of a "white elephant" thing, that
is,
on Tuesday of Tenth Week bring a gag gift (think cheap and funny) and
we'll all trade.
-- Pride Prom is taking place this Friday night, 8:00, at the
Radisson
Hotel in downtown Kzoo. Tickets cost $10 (sold at the door?), but
apparently it's going to be quite an event! Dress is formal to
drag-tastic. Go, dance, be merry.
-- The controversial new movie "Kinsey" (about the
pioneering
psychologist who played a major role in jump-starting the sexual
revolution) has recently come out in limited release, and more than
likely, it will be here in Kalamazoo soon. People seemed very interested
in a Kscope field trip, which would probably occur in the evening during
the weekend before finals. Don't worry: you'll still have plenty of time
to study your asses off.
-- Many ideas for next quarter were discussed. It looks like
we'll be
putting on several awesome, consciousness-raising events. A preview: an
Amnesty International-Kaleidoscope collaboration, possibly on a speaker
Winter Quarter and also for Jamnesty (a huge musical event in the
spring); something about homosexuality and family, possibly a discussion
panel on all aspects of this far-reaching subject, since everybody can
relate to family, love, acceptance, queer siblings/parents/relatives,
etc.; an event about homosexuality in sports, hopefully featuring a
prominent queer sports star; and don't forget about Sean Kosofsky's
planned visit on January 19th to discuss "what next" for the queer
community.
