Recycling : The
Recycling Fleet
The vehicles that we use are almost as important as the people that drive them. Much of
the work that we do would take hours longer if we did not have these things to drive around in. Below
you'll find information about what we have, and what we use them for. Click on the thumbnails

Putting age before
beauty, let's take a look at the paper truck. This is a 1977 Ford F600. A part of the U-Haul
fleet before its purchase by the Recycling Department, it has just under 775,000 miles on it!
A manual transmission (four on the floor) and lack of power steering make this a tricky one to
drive, even under the top speed of 45 miles per hour. Inside we
sort and store paper before taking them off to the Material Reclamation Facility. |

Jonas Traxler-Ballew puts Beast
through its paces. Beast is the newest of our vehicles, having only been around for about two
years. At fourteen feet in length, it's the nearly twice the size of Turtle (without the
trailer,) and about half as fast or maneuverable. Rob custom built the fencing on the back out of
recycled plastic lumber. By combining various
systems of rope, bungie cords and a custom built sliding lumber system, we are able to secure four Big Wheel bins, and lots of loose
cardboard or styrofoam
onboard. |
