Recycling : Archives : General and Paper Recycling Data
There are a few different groupings of data on this page. For the years 1993 to 1998, we've
provided estimated data for a variety of categories. At that time, we changed the way that we
handled some materials, making it possible to accurately track amounts recycled. Below that general
information, you'll find more recent, accurate data for paper. Enjoy!
The following is a general list of how much we have recycled in
the last several years, all weights in pounds.
Data are estimated to the best of our abilities.

Recent Paper Recycling Data
This table shows just how much paper we recycled in the year 2001, broken down by type
of paper and month, all weights are in pounds. Some totals are larger than the sums of the
four paper columns due to miscellaneous unlisted materials.

| Grand Total: 51.87 tons |
What that table means:
51.87 tons of recycled paper is rougly just over 210 cubic yards (210.44 yards3.)
That's a pile of paper roughly the size of 850 soda vending machines, made from approximately
1,116 trees, each forty feet tall and 6-8 inches around. That amount of paper being recycled means:
- 25,935 pounds of air pollution were not emitted
- The energy equivalent of 4,979 gallons of gas was conserved
- 622,440 gallons of processed water was conserved

Here's a more detailed (and charted) look at some recycling data.
The following graph details the amounts of paper recycled between
January and May of 2000. Each date indicates the date that our truck
was emptied. "Office Paper" is strictly white paper with black ink (student's papers, most
postal mail, etc.) "Mixed Paper" is any colored paper, or white paper with colored ink. "Newspaper"
and "Shredded Paper" are self-explanatory.

Here's charted information detailing paper weight in pounds by quarter from 2000/2001:
