Opportunities for Political Science Students
*** For the most up-to-date listing, go to the "Political Science Dept Updates" Moodle page. This current page provides a somewhat outdated listing of deadlines for scholarships, paid and unpaid
internships and externships, courses, conferences, publication opportunities,
and other assorted opportunities. In addition to being a bit outdated, it is also very incomplete. It is a listing of whatever has been sent to the
political science faculty. ***
The best way to keep updated with a more complete and current
listing of such opportunities is to sign up with K-Connect
at www.kzoo.edu/career
. This way, you will receive updates on these opportunities by email.
Paid opportunities after graduation:
11 month, paid fellowhip through California State University.
Deadline: March 31. Fellows will be selected to serve as full-time
staff in the Legislature or other branches of government in
Sacramento. The members of the California Latino Legislative
Caucus established the California Latino Caucus Institute
(CLCI) as a non-profit, non-partisan educational organization
dedicated to developing the next generation of public policy
leaders in California.

As a graduating senior you are no doubt trying to decide
what you will do next year, or even for the next 5 years.
I want to let you know more about opportunities in the public
interest and social change field.
The state Public Interest Research Groups (the
state PIRGs) are a
nation-wide network of state-based public interest advocacy
groups. This year we are hiring 150 graduating college students
to determine where this country is going: to solve our energy
problems; to protect our national forests; to reform the campaign
finance system; to clean up our air; to safeguard individuals
from identity theft; and make an impact on many other public
interest issues.
For more information I invite you to check out our website.

From: Kalamazoo College Center for Career Development
Subject: For 'K' Faculty: Great Internship & Job Opportunities
Dear Pre-Law society members,
At the Center for Career Development, we receive notification
of great internship opportunities every day. Frequently,
the CCD sends out targeted emails like this one when a
truly outstanding internship or job opportunity becomes
available.
There are several worthwhile opportunities that we hope
you encourage your members to explore:
Be sure to check out the eRecruiting website for information
about the Council on Legal Education Oppotunity's (CLEO's)
Sophomore Summer Program. The program targets minority,
low-income, or otherwise disadvantaged students. Benefits
of the program include a chance to sharpen critical thinking
and legal writing skills, intensive LSAT preparation,
and much more - all at no cost to the student. We encourage
you to share this information with students whom you feel
may be interested and may fit the criteria. Just visit K-Connect
and look for CLEO under "employer search".
Please feel free to contact the CCD with any questions!
Best Wishes,
The CCD Staff

Dear Colleagues,
The Fulbright Program is encouraging minority applicants (see
below).
Please refer appropriate students to me or Ms. Sylvain. Thanks!

Dear Ms. Kiino,
I hope this message finds you in good spirits. I
have recently been appointed to work on diversity outreach
for the U.S. Fulbright Program. I understand that
you are the Fulbright Program Advisor at Kalamazoo College.
I am writing in hopes that you help me communicate with
professors and students of color on campus to spread the
word on the existence of Fulbright. As you may know,
we are targeting a number of schools, Kalamazoo included,
to help boost up the number of minority
applicants. How can I get in touch with these students
and active professors?
I also hope to obtain information about any campus events,
meetings and general conferences that shall be taking place
so we can notify the
students of color, and create an opportunity to strongly
encourage them to apply for the grant.
I hope that we can work together. I thank you in
advance and hope to
hear from you soon.
Regards,
Didier Sylvain
