A.
Overview of Research
My scholarship
centers on issues of political reform and democratization
in Latin America, and more specifically, Colombia.
In broad terms, my work is informed by a normative
commitment to human rights and participatory democracy, and
is guided by an intellectual curiosity regarding the empirical
causes of, and obstacles to, democratic reform. In my research
I have been particularly concerned with analyzing: a) efforts
to introduce democratic reform to the Colombian political
regime, and b) obstacles to effective democratic consolidation
in Colombia. My concern
with these empirical issues has led to a number of different
research projects and publications over the years.
