  • Philosophy Courses

    The department offers courses in the history of Western philosophy, traditional subfields and specialized topics. The six historical courses address important periods and traditions of Western philosophy, from the ancient Greeks to contemporary times: Ancient, Early Modern, 18th­Century, 19th­Century, Existentialism, and Contemporary Continental Philosophy. The classic subfields of epistemology, logic, ethics, metaphysics and aesthetics are offered as introductions to the distinctive subject matters of philosophical inquiry. Specialized subfields are also offered under the titles, Philosophy of Law, Philosophy of Language, Philosophy and Literature, The Just Society, Biomedical Ethics, Environmental Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, and Philosophy of the Social Sciences.
