Certain philosophy courses contain special units
of interdisciplinary instruction known as "Bridge Readings."
Bridge Readings are texts that the instructor has chosen, often in close
consulation with other departments, that allow students to appreciate the
connections between philosophical issues and research within another discipline.
The purpose of such readings is to encourage students to identify philosophical
precedents, issues and concepts within the discipline they have chosen
as their major course of study. Instead of taking the final examination,
students are invited to write a final paper that explores the connection
between course material and their major course of study. Interdepartmental
assistance is often available to support such interdisciplinary efforts.
