Career Readiness

All my life I have had different ideas of what I would like to do with my life.  I have wanted to be a teacher, a lawyer, a doctor, an accountant and even the first female President of the United States.  When I came to Kalamazoo College, I was set on being an international coporate lawyer.  I took Political Science classes and when asked what my major was, of course I said Pre-law.  I liked the classes that I was taking and I also liked the idea of being a lawyer.  It wasn't until I had an internship in a law office that I learned that law isn't the route I would really like to take.
Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions that a person will make in their live.  It is easy to be sold on the idea of a certain career, but until you get experience in that field, you don't really know if it is the right area for you.  You can only learn so much in your classes and through other informational sources.  The best way to make a decision on such a life-impacting decision is to get hands-on experience through an internship opportunity.
Throughout my years in college and even toward the end of my high school education, I have participated in several different internships, and most were in different fields. I learned early that the best way to choose your career is through experience in many different areas.
