Supplemental Instruction (SI)

The official description:

What is SI?

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a series of weekly review sessions for students taking historically difficult courses. Attendance at sessions is voluntary and open to all students. Students who attend SI study sessions regularly (at least once a week) often perform one-half to one full letter grade better than students who do not participate actively. It was developed by Dr. Deanna Martin in 1973 at the University of Missouri at Kansas City.

What is an SI Leader?

The SI leaders' job is to guide students through the study of course material. They have taken the course before, and have been recommended by faculty based on their strong academic performance and interpersonal skills. The SI leaders attend class, take notes, and conduct two study sessions a week. During the study sessions, the SI leader serves as a guide and a resource as the students go over the course material.
