Career Goals
Currently
I am planning to take a couple years off to gain further experience in
research, especially ecology with conservation. I began Kalamazoo
college searching for a career in medicine in the hope of becoming a physician.
However, since then I have changed my focus towards other animals.
I know that I want to work with animals. I admire such biologists
as Cynthia Moss, Jane Goodall, Diane Fossy, etc. who devote themselves
to their research. In addition, I love the aspect of ecology in biology.
I would like to be able to conduct a project that uses first rate science
with animals that are often hard to use such methods with. Alina
Kipchumba's project on black rhinos and another graduate student of UIC
performing research on snow leopards in Nepal have demonstrated that it
can be done! I hope that in the next few years I can find and learn
about an endangered animal in which I could later construct and conduct
a doctoral thesis with. Foraging behavior currently provides a great
view into the behaviors, especially those important to conservation, of
animals. I wish to extend extend behavioral indicators to other endangered,
hopefully resulting in stronger material to buttress the current conservation
efforts.
