This
class was essentially an independent study course during which I was able
to further develop the concept for my SIP.
I began the class with the decision to work in color, but
by the end of the class I knew that I did not want to pursue color printing
for my SIP. This course allowed me to develop dark room technique
for color printing, but I did not like the process at all. It was
not nearly as rewarding a process as black and white, and the odor of the
chemicals was stifling. It was an excellent preparation for my SIP,
and as such was a very useful class. Final Grade: A-
Principles
of Programming Languages
In this class I learned that I do not like
the teaching style of Dr. Will Fitzgerald at all. I felt he was usually
completely unorganized and unprepared for class. I could not follow
his teaching style, his notes on the board were less than helpful, and he
could not follow a train of thought. When I approached him during
class and in his office for help, I found him to be very short with me and
did not act like he wanted to hear my questions at all. Ashley Cross
and I talked with him on several occassions to try and adjust his teaching
style to what the class required, but I felt our attempts were very unsuccessful.
This class was generally frustrating and made me very disappointed
in the CS department. Final Grade: B

Dr. Intermont is possibly one of the
most difficult professors I have encounteded at K-College. She is very
demanding of her students, but this suits her as she is an excellent professor.
She was not always clear on her expectations for work to be handed
in which led to some frustration on my part, but generally I found her teaching
style to fit very well with my preferred learning style. While I had
a lot of difficulty understanding all of the topics of this class, I feel
my work, especially on my problem sets was very good. I put forth all
the effort I could to do well in this course, and while my grade may not
reflect this, I know I tried my hardest to do well. Final Grade: C+
Artificial
Intelligence
I very much did not want to take another
class with Will Fitzgerald after my expeience with Programming Languages,
but this course was my only choice if I wanted to complete my major on time.
As a result, I spent an incredibly frustrating quarter in a course
where I felt I learned next to nothing. His teaching went downhill
from fall quarter, and I really believe my knowledge exiting this course
was only minimally more than my knowledge entering it. The only highlight
of the course was working with the ER-1 robot, however, this was greatly
tainted by the fact that the robot was defective and the project was never
completed due to the defects of the robot. Final Grade: B+
Astronomy
This coruse taught by Michael Hornish
provided me with an introductory understanding of the cosmos. I already
knew much of the information covered when I began the class, and while the
topics were fairly simplistic, I still came out of the class knowing quite
a bit more than I started. The lectures were very dry and followed
the book almost exactly, however, I always did the readings as there were
pop quizzes that supposedly came from these. The book was a very useful
tool in learning the material, and I often used it in place of listening
to the lectures.
