Reflections
Visions of America: On Page
Seminar was a great class for me.  I was extremely nervous about my writing before coming to K.  I knew colleges had much higher expectations than high schools when it comes to writing, and I wasn't sure if I was at the right level.  This class, taught by Danny Sledge, showed me what is expected.  The discussions about stereotypes in our society were always interesting, as were the many books we read.  I now feel comfortable with my writing abilities, and much more informed about perspectives and perceptions of people of minority cultures.  Final Grade: A-

General Psychology
I took Gen Psych because I had never before taken a psychology class.  I knew that my major would not involve math or science, but other than that, my major was completely undetermined.  Psychology was something I was considering for a major, depending on how I liked this class.  Professor Batsell taught the class primarily by lecturing.  At 8:30 in the morning, this is not the most desireable class to take, but I actually grew to like it.  Waking up so early was never easy, but the lectures were interesting enough to not only keep me awake, but make me want to stay awake.  I enjoyed this class, and will continue taking more psychology  classes, keeping it in mind for a possible major.  Final Grade: B+

German 420
Before coming to K, I had taken four years of German at my high school.  When I started here, I did so with the idea that I would go to Germany for study abroad, and maybe even consider a minor in German.  I have now decided I was crazy to think that.  Sitting in German 420, four days a week, I found myself often staring out the window, trying to count down the minutes until calss would be over, but always failing because the clock on the wall was broken, and I never knew what time it really was.  I don't think the class was poorly taught, I think I have just been taking German for too long, and need a break from it.  Finall Grade: B

Developmental Psychology
I took Developmental Psych not really knowing what I was getting myself into.  I didn't even consider what the class would be about when I signed up for it.  But I went ahead and took the class, and ended up loving it.  Dev. Psych is basically about kids, and how the grow.  We learned about the development of motor skills, thoughts, artistic abilities, and relationships from birth through adolescence.  This class, taught by Dr. Sui-Lan Tan was my favorite class so far at K.  Not only was I fascinated by the subject matter, but I loved Dr. Tan's teaching style as well.  She incorporated lecture with group learning in a way that really motivated me to learn, and made me look forward to coming to class each day.  On one of the first days of class she said she would try to make learning in her class be like a visit to EPCOT at Disney World.  I didn't know how this could be possible, but I found that it really was.  Here's a  few papers I had to write for the course.  Final Grade: A-

Native American Literature
Whie I enjoyed reading the novels, anthologies, and autobiographies required for this class, I never looked forward to going to this class.  I found the class instruction to be dull and often felt like Professor Amelia Katanski was not quite sure what she was teaching.  She seemed very knowledgeable on the topic of Native Americans, but as far as the literature was concerned, she seemed very wishy-washy.  The teaching got better towards the end of the semester, possibly because she became more comfortable teaching our class.  But I still did not like this class very much.  We wrote five response papers, and while writing each of these I felt I had such little understanding what I should write about that I often just threw something together.  The same was true with my Mid-term and final papers.  Final Grade: B+

Introduction to Computer Science
This class was a last minute addition to my schedule after dropping a history course.  R.C McDowell taught the course.  I especially enjoyed the lab portion of the class, during which I got to make a very basic home page, an expert system, and several other websites.  I thought that the work in the class was fun, and really taught me a lot about HTML.  Although I now know a lot of the HTML and JavaScript codes, I still prefer the simplicity of making a webpage using Netscape Composer.  Here's a link to my work from CS.  Final Grade: A

Journalism I
When I first began this class I really enjoyed it.  I like to write, but not creatively, so it was the right kind of class for me.  I had to write two articles for the school paper, The Index, and we also had several assignments for class that involved research and writing a pseudo-newspaper article.  As the class progressed I began to really dislike the professor.  Even so, I enjoyed the class.  Final Grade: A

Sports Psychology
This class was taught by a visiting professor.  I thought she was terrible!  Lectures were incredibly boring and came straight from the book.  It was as if she had no knowledge on the topic except that which she read in our text.  The tests, however, did not cover material consistant with what was being taught in lecture and in our readings.  I did not completely hate the homework for this class, and some of it actually seemed worthwhile, but it was not enough to get me to like the class.  Final Grade: B

Digital Art
I really enjoyed this class taught by Richard Koenig.  While attending a class on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for 2 hours during spring quarter is not exactly my idea of a good time, I really did like this class.  I was able to increase my knowledge in html and learned how to do some really cool photo altering tricks.  For this class I was required to create about five photo pieces and two web pages.  I thought this class was an excellent introduction to digital art.  Final Grade: B+
