Director of Counseling/Psychologist   Patricia Ponto, Ph.D.
Associate Director of Counseling/Psychologist   Alan Hill, Ph.D.
Counselor   Doree Grossman

The Counseling staff provides the opportunity for students to share concerns, sort out thoughts and feelings, and make choices, with the assistance of a psychologist or social worker. The counseling staff will assess the problem and work individually with the student, or if appropriate, make a referral to another staff person or to a professional in the local community. We do not have the resources to provide long-term counseling. If a student should need extended counseling, we will assist the student in making arrangements with a professional in the community, and the student must assume financial responsibility for the counseling.

The Student Development staff, residence hall staff, and faculty form a network of people concerned about the emotional health of students. Early identification and intervention can often keep problems from becoming severe. Please encourage your son or daughter to seek help before a problem becomes too large to handle.

Dysfunctional Student Behavior
If a student with a serious problem is unable to participate fully in the academic program, the College reserves the right to temporarily separate the student from the College and to help the student seek appropriate care. Whenever possible, the student will be involved in the decision to notify parents, but the Dean of Students will take appropriate steps in an emergency situation.
