The LandSea program is led and managed by a group of "K" faculty, staff, and alumni that have become known as the Guides. The Guides are a critical resource bringing consistent experience and expertise to the leadership of LandSea. In addition to the preparations for each year’s trip, the Guides instruct and direct each group through the climb and rappel; coordinate all the logistics of keeping over a hundred people fed, equipped, and moving through the park; instruct, mentor and support the leaders during Leaders’ Week and throughout the program; and respond to all emergencies or serious behavior issues. The guides are: Director of LandSea Tom Breznau, Assistant Director Rob Townsend (also"K" Recycling Coordinator) and Assistant Director Suzanne Lepley (also Assistant Director of Admission at "K" College).

 

Adjunct Guides:

The system of creating adjunct guides was started a few years ago. At the end of each school year, the list of the leaders who are graduating and have led at least twice is reviewed and any exceptional leaders are invited to join our adjunct guide list. On the average, one extraordinary leader is invited to join the adjunct guide list each year. These graduates are invited each spring to apply to come on LandSea as an adjunct guide. Most years, two adjuncts manage to find a way to leave their jobs and lives for a month to join the guide team. As great leaders and individuals, adjunct guides add a high level of experience and expertise to our team while serving as wonderful role models for the leaders. In return, adjunct guides get the opportunity to return to Killarney Park and the LandSea program to further develop and practice their leadership skills. Bringing adjunct guides to LandSea has added a whole new level of leadership development to the program.
