1. The recommended method is to obtain your own Internet Services Provider (ISP) for full internet access. You can then connect to Kalamazoo College services via the internet. Note that email relaying (sending email from off-campus to other off-campus addresses) is not allowed through the Kalamazoo College email server. This helps prevent our server from being used to distribute "spam". This problem can be avoided by using our web email interface at https://webmail.kzoo.edu or authenticating when sending mail.
2. The College also has four MichNet "tokens". These tokens allow PPP access to on-campus as well as external resources. Up to four users can connect concurrently. There is a two hour time limit per session.
3. The College also provides limited PPP access to the network (i.e. to on-campus resources including email and College web pages) through sixteen 56k modems.
Since access from these modems is on-campus only, you will need to use your personal ISP or MichNet if you need Internet access (e.g. off-campus web pages). Off-campus Library and research resources are available if you define Ariadne as a web proxy.
Limited telephone assistance with MichNet and the College-owned modems can be obtained by calling the College's computer help desk at 337-5800 between 8am and 5pm week days. Please note that it is not possible for us to make home visits to help configure your system(s).
