Residential Computer Consultant (RCC)

Each Residence Hall has a Residential Computer Consultant (RCC) to assist with any problems related to connecting your computer to the network. RCCs are students hired by Information Services to provide some support to students on ResNet. Each RCC will set up a schedule (usually evenings) with times that they are available to help. The RCC will also place a signup list on their door. If you need help, just put your name on the list, or see the RCC in person during their posted hours.

RCCs do not repair hardware problems on your computer or your peripherals (printers, monitors, scanners, etc). Your property is your responsibility. The RCCs may assist you with getting your network card installed correctly. However, we can not guarantee that we can make your network card work in your computer. Every year, there are a number of student systems that require the student to buy a different brand or model of network card to be compatible with their computer.

Please note:

  • RCCs are students and have school work and other activitites, just like you do.
  • They are paid a limited number of hours per week.
  • Their schedule for RCC work is based upon the hours that they work and the times that fit into their busy schedules.
  • Please do not bother them with computer problems outside of their posted hours, unless you make prior arrangements with the RCC.

Help Desk

The Help Desk is open 8-5, Monday through Friday. If you are using software that is standard for the Computer Labs, then you may be able to get some help. The primary responsibility for the Help Desk are faculty, staff, and Computer labs. These areas all use standardized computer hardware and software. The Help Desk does not support non-standard software or any student-owned hardware.

The Help Desk can change passwords, remove viruses from floppy disks, and give directions for many standard operations in software packages.
