PRINTING SERVICES POLICY

Printing Home | Policy | Avoid Waste | FAQ

Printing on the Kalamazoo College campus is available from computers in the computer labs and in the Library. Students may not use networked campus printers from their rooms. To cover paper and toner costs, printer maintenance, and to discourage waste, Information Services tracks the number of pages printed on campus laser printers and charges a nominal printing fee.

Who Can Print
Current students, faculty, and staff with a Kalamazoo College network account can print from Library and lab computers.

Checking Printing Accounts
To view the print credit balance, double-click the black dollar sign in the track next to the clock in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. Printing accounts will block print jobs that exceed the number of available credits. Balance can only be viewed on PCs but students are still charged if using a Macintosh computer.

***Information Services is not responsible if someone else has printed from your account.
To prevent print credit theft, Log Out of any lab computer you have been using!***

Print Credit Allotment
One printed page equals one print credit. Students are allotted 100 free print credits per quarter, with two exceptions: students receive 150 print credits in the fall quarter of their first year to offset First Year Seminar assignments, and 300 print credits in the fall quarter of their senior year to offset SIP printing costs. Credits stay in student printing accounts throughout the academic year, accumulating each quarter. However, Information Services refreshes printing accounts each summer, so credits do not carry over to the following academic year.

Quarter Allotted Free Print Credits
First year fall 150 pages
First year winter and spring 100 pages per quarter
Sophomore fall, winter, and spring 100 pages per quarter
Junior fall, winter, and spring 100 pages per quarter
Senior fall 300 pages
Senior winter and spring 100 pages per quarter

These free print credits remain in printing accounts throughout the academic year, so unused credits in a given quarter will accumulate and carry over into the following quarter. However, all printing accounts are cleared in June after Commencement, so extra credits in printing accounts will not carry over to the next fall.

Adding Print Credits
Students may purchase print credits for 10¢ per page at the Circulation Desk in the Library. Students may add credits to their printing accounts in increments of 10¢. Consider how many credits you need before purchasing them; if you run out of credits, you will not be able to print.

Reimbursement
Information Services cannot reimburse students for unused credits. In addition, print credits are not transferable to other accounts. You may request a refund of print credits if a printout is unreadable, wrinkled, or caught in a paper jam. Bring the flawed pages to the Library Circulation Desk to receive a print credit refund. You CANNOT request a refund for non-printer errors such as blank pages at the end of a document, printing a document in error, or spelling mistakes.

Off-Campus Study
Students studying off-campus will accumulate the number of credits outlined above. However, students studying off-campus for nine months will not receive extra print credits when they return in the Fall. All printing accounts are refreshed in the summer.
