Information Services
: Mission
Statement and Organizational Description
The mission of Kalamazoo College Information Services is to provide
and promote the services and resources necessary to meet the present
and future scholarly, information, and instructional needs of out
students, faculty, and staff, and insofar as possible, to share
these resources with the broader scholarly community. To fulfill
this mission it is necessary to:

acquire or produce the media needed to support
the curriculum

index and organize these materials so that
they are easily accessible to the users

maintain the collection and equipment in proper
physical condition
-
provide assistance in identifying, locating,
and using all information resources.

facilitate the use of these resources by a reliable
distrubtion system and courteous, efficient services
-
create and maintain a campus-wide network of
computers, servers, and software for digital communication
-
support the users of these computers through
a program of instruction and technical support
-
participate in the College community and reach
out to the College's wider constituencies.
Information Services consists of the Library and the three arms of the information technology team: Technical and Media Services, Administrative Comuting, and Web Services

Upjohn
Library circulates over 300,000 volumes, thousands
of print and full text online periodicals, and provides access
to libraries throughout the United States via Interlibrary Loan.
The Library also houses the A. M. Todd Rare Book Room and the
College Archives.

Administrative
Computing assists the administrative staff in collecting
data, reporting results, and doing data analysis on student,
administrative, and financial data using the CARS integrated
database.

Technical and Media Services distributes media equipment, maintains
the microcomputer labs, provides troubleshooting and in-office
help for desktop computers through the Help Desk and ResNet, and is responsible for maintaining the
servers and telecommunications infrastructure that make up K-Net,
ResNet and K-TV. They are responsible for keeping
the e-mail, world wide web, application, file and print, K-TV,
telephone, and ethernet services running. The group provides
technical documentation for the College regarding user accounts
and also provides technical support for the campus community.
- Web
Services is the central access point for the College's
Website as well as other Web-based services on campus.
