RESEARCH GUIDE: USING BIBLIOGRAPHIES

Published Bibliographies
The Library's Reference Collection is full of published bibliographies
on every topic. These are book-length collections of citations to books, articles,
and other sources on specific topics. Many citations are
annotated and include abstracts of the works cited. Bibliographies
are an excellent place to begin your research, since someone
has gathered the citations for you.
Encyclopedias
The Reference Stacks include General and Subject Specific
Encyclopedias. These Encyclopedias contain excellent background
information on many topics, and most include a bibliography
at the end of each entry.
Books
Most nonfiction scholarly books include bibliographies at
the end of chapters or at the end of the book.
Journal Articles
Scholarly journal articles always include a list of works
cited. Once you find a few recently published journal articles
on your topic, the bibliographies at the ends of those articles
may lead you to all of the sources you will need.
Text Books
Your textbook and other course assigned readings often include
excellent bibliographies.
