LIBRARY POLICIES: UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR

Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behavior in Upjohn Library Commons includes, but is not limited to:

  • Loud conversation or actions that disturb others
  • Harassing others, either verbally or through actions
  • Physical threats or abuse
  • Abusive or profane language
  • Cell phone and pager use in restricted areas and when disturbing others.
  • Using radios, audio players, or other personal listening equipment at a level that can be heard by others
  • Bringing pets into the library building (see Service Animals and Pets Policy)
  • Not wearing a shirt, shoes, and other basic clothing (see Appropriate Attire)
  • Spitting in the Library
  • Abuse or misuse of Upjohn Library Commons structure, furnishings, equipment, or materials
  • Commission of an illegal or unauthorized act on Library property against patrons, personnel, or property of the Library,
    i.e., theft, trespass, assault, arson, etc.
  • Use of alcohol or mood-altering drugs in or around the Upjohn Library Commons building
    (see the Kalamazoo College Alcohol Policy and the Kalamazoo College Controlled Substance Policy)
  • Inappropriate use of sensitive materials (see Responsible Use of Sensitive Text or Electronic Material)

Patrons will be warned once and requested to leave if the unacceptable behavior continues. Suspension of library privileges may occur if a patron is found to have engaged in unacceptable behavior on Upjohn Library Commons property.
