MeLCat
What is MeLCat?
MeLCat is an online catalog that combines the catalogs
of several libraries in Michigan, including public, academic,
and K-12 school libraries. These libraries have merged their
holdings into a single online catalog called MeLCat that can
be searched directly or from any of the participating libraries'
catalogs.
What can I get through MeLCat?
You may request books, videos, and other materials from MeLCat.
MeLCat does not provide periodicals
or journal articles.
Who can request materials through MeLCat?
Current students, faculty, and staff of Kalamazoo College
can request books directly from MeLCat. (Alumni and emeritus
faculty members are not eligible to request MeLCat items
through Kalamazoo College -- check to see if your local
public library is on the MeLCat
Participants List.) MeLCat includes the circulation
status of materials, so you can
see whether a book is available or checked out (you cannot
see who checked it out, though - that's against the Michigan
Library Privacy Act). When current students, faculty
and staff request books through MeLCat, the books will
be delivered to the Circulation Desk at the library
and the requestor will be contacted via email when the
book arrives.
How long can I check out MeLCat materials? Can I renew
them?
The loan period for MeLCat books, videos, and all other circulating
materials is three weeks. MeLCat materials can be renewed
once, for three additional weeks from the date renewed. You
can renew MeLCat items through your Ariadne Library
Account.
How many items can I request through MeLCat?
You may request up to 50 items from MeLCat at a time. To see
your MeLCat requests, go to Your
Library Account in Ariadne and enter your name and barcode
number as they appear on your K College ID.
Where do I pick up and return MeLCat materials?
Please pick up and return MeLCat materials to the Kalamazoo
College Library circulation desk. You will have ten days to
pick up requested materials; if items are not picked up at
the end of ten days, they are returned to the lending library.
Patrons are responsible for returning items to the Kalamazoo
College Library on or before the due date, as well as for
paying any late fees, damage or replacement reimbursement
fees.
Are there fines for overdue MeLCat materials?
Yes. Fines for MeLCat items are the same as Kalamazoo
College Library fines. Replacement
costs and billing fees are also the same for lost items.
You can see your fines for MeLCat items through your Ariadne Library
Account.
