The Encyclopaedia
of Islam Online provides access to over 13,000 articles
on every aspect of Islam from Ababda to Zurna. It covers Middle
Eastern and Islamic studies and provides articles on distinguished
Muslims of every age and land, on tribes and dynasties, on
the crafts and sciences, on political and religious institutions,
on the geography, ethnography, flora and fauna of the various
countries and on the history, topography and monuments of
the major towns and cities. In its geographical and historical
scope, it encompasses the old Arabo-Islamic empire, the Islamic
countries of Iran, Central Asia, the Indian sub-continent
and Indonesia, the Ottoman Empire and all other Islamic countries.
The Encyclopaedia will be updated and expanded in Geographic
scope: it will cover South Asia, South East Asia, Sub-Saharan
Africa, Europe, and North America, in addition to the Arab
World, Iran, North Africa, and the Ottoman Empire with the
Balkans. Chronologically, coverage will begin with the advent
of Islam and continue to the Present Day, including the modern
muslim diaspora. Coverage includes anthropological and sociological
scholarship, while continuing to devote ample attention to
Islamic philology, linguistics, history, literature, art history,
and material culture.
