NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS
Because of the fragile nature of newsprint, original newspaper
clippings are not kept in the Archives. News articles are
photocopied onto acid free paper. Be sure that the date and
the source are included on the photocopy.
The Archives does not usually save articles appearing in
The Kalamazoo Gazette about specific sporting events
or performances. It takes too much staff time to try and save
all of them. Users wishing to find these articles can retrieve
the date from Archives sources and use the Kalamazoo Gazette
on microfilm. An index to The Kalamazoo Gazette is
also available in the Reference Department (shelved underneath
the indexes to The New York Times). If the article
is not closely tied to a specific athletic event or performance,
it should be saved. An example would be an article about the
tennis team's long winning streak -- it's not about a specific
tennis match. Articles from newspapers other than The Kalamazoo
Gazette are kept if they are from an important source,
to document the publicity the College receives, or if they
are a source of additional information.
