New Service: EndNote Web

As part of our subscription to ISI Web of Knowledge, the library is able to offer users access to EndNote Web, a web-based tool for managing and citing references in papers and creating bibliographies. Users have the ability to save, manage and format up to 10,000 citations.

The first time they log on, users will need to register for an account, which will allow them access to their EndNote Web account from any computer. References found in one of the ISI Web of Knowledge databases may be saved instantly by clicking on the "Save to My EndNote Web" button. References from other databases may also be added.

New Database: PressDisplay - World Newspapers

The Library is pleased to announce its subscription to PressDisplay!

PressDisplay provides online access to today's newspapers from around the world in full-color, full-page format. The collection currently includes over 400 U.S. and international titles. Viewers can browse articles and other content, such as pictures, advertisements, classifieds, and notices. PressDisplay provides a 60-day backfile and the ability to perform keyword searches across all titles and entire backfile. The service does not require additional software or plug-ins.

New Database: Oxford African American Studies Center

The Library is pleased to announce its subscription to the Oxford African American Studies Center!

The Oxford African American Studies Center provides online access to several reference resources in African American studies. It includes Africana, an account of the African and African American experience. The Encyclopedia of African American History, 1619-1895 documents the African American experience from the arrival of the black explorer, Esteban, who arrived with the Spanish in 1527, to the death of Frederick Douglass. The Encyclopedia of African American History, 1896 to the Present presents African American history into the twenty-first century. The contribution of African American women is illuminated by Black Women in America, Second Edition. And finally, the African American National Biography presents African American history through the lives of its people, ultimately offering over 6,000 biographies. Over 1,000 images, primary sources with specially written commentaries, and over 100 maps have been collected to enhance this reference content.

New Database: L'Année Philologique for Classical Studies

The Library is pleased to announce its subscription to
L'Année Philologique!

This index provides citations to publications related to the history, language, literature and civilization of ancient Greece and Rome. Publications indexed include periodical articles as well as articles in collections and conference papers in classics and classical studies. L'Année Philologique covers Greek and Latin linguistics and literature, including early Christian texts and patristics, and Greek and Roman history, archaeology, mythology, religion, papyrology, epigraphy, numismatics and palaeography, philosophy, art, archaeology, religion, mythology, music, science, and all aspects of the ancient Mediterranean world.

This database contains the full text of 72 document projects that interpret and present documents, most of which are not otherwise available online, a dictionary of social movements and organizations, a chronology of U.S. Women's History, and more.

Encyclopaedia Judaica Now Available Online

The Gale Virtual Reference Library now includes an online version of the Encyclopaedia Judaica, 2007 edition. The updated edition of this work features more than 21,000 entries on Jewish life, culture, history, and religion, written by Israeli, American and European subject specialists.

The Library also has the 2007 edition in print, which supercedes the 1972 edition of this set.

New Databases: Ethnic News Watch and Gender Watch

The Library is pleased to announce two new databases: Ethnic News Watch and Gender Watch.

Ethnic NewsWatch is "an interdisciplinary, bilingual (English and Spanish) and comprehensive full text database of the newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press, offering both national and regional coverage. ENW provides researchers access to essential, often overlooked perspectives viewpoints from those proffered by the mainstream press."

GenderWatch "is a full text database of unique and diverse publications that focus on how gender impacts a broad spectrum of subject areas. With its archival material, dating back to 1970 in some cases, GenderWatch is a repository of an important historical perspective on the evolution of the women's movement and the changes in gender roles. Publications include scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, regional publications, books, and NGO, government and special reports."

The Library is pleased to announce its subscription to Academic OneFile!

Academic OneFile provides peer-reviewed, full-text articles from leading journals and reference sources; Extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects; Articles available in both PDF and HTML full-text with no restrictions.
  • Academic OneFile contains nearly 9,000 academic journals.
  • Journals are mostly peer-reviewed and mainly full-text, focusing on the social sciences and humanities. Current publishing partners include: Blackwell Publishing, Springer-Verlag, Elsevier Publishers and other journal publishing houses.
  • Academic OneFile is comprised primarily of journals covered in premier indices such as CINAHL, JSTOR, PsychINFO, MLA, BIOSIS, etc.
  • Content is provided in multiple languages, accommodating international publishers.

New Database: Grove Art Online

The Library is pleased to announce a new database: Grove Art Online. This database contains the full text of The Dictionary of Art, edited by Jane Turner (1996, 34 vols) and The Oxford Companion to Western Art, edited by Hugh Brigstocke (2001). It includes over 45,000 articles and more than 40,000 links to important art images in galleries and museums around the world.

REALIA Database for Foreign Language Teaching

REALIA is database of images put together by language faculty and librarians from the GLCA and NITLE (National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education). The REALIA Project can be found here:

REALIA is a searchable database that provides language instructors with images accessible via the Web. These images are royalty-free and submitted by faculty from colleges throughout the United States. It focuses on images of that should be helpful in the teaching of modern languages and cultures.

Current languages are French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Arabic and Chinese are in the works, but these aren't in the database yet. REALIA includes the ability to compare images side by side as well as download to PowerPoint.

The Library is pleased to announce that current Kalamazoo College students, faculty, and staff have acccess to a new database: Gale Virtual Reference Library. New Database: In the First Person

The Library is pleased to announce a new database: In the First Person. This database is an online index to English language personal narratives, including letters, diaries, memoirs, autobiographies, and oral histories. It includes more than 2,500 collections of oral history and interviews in English from around the world. It allows for keyword searching of more than 260,000 pages of full-text by more than 9,000 individuals from all walks of life.

PLEASE NOTE that this database links to some free content and some subscription content. Kalamazoo College does not subscribe to all content indexed in this database.

New Database: RILM Abstracts of Music Literature

The Library is pleased to announce a new subscription to RILM Abstracts of Music Literature. RILM is an online index to publications on music and various other fields as they relate to music, including acoustics, liturgy, aesthetics, mathematics, anthropology, music therapy, criticism, dance, philosophy, psychology, visual arts, and more.
