MeL is the Michigan Electronic Library, and the Kalamazoo College Library participates in many of the resources and services that MeL offers, including MeLCat and several indexes and full text databases. Your thoughts are important to us, so please complete the MeL

In an effort to continue improving MeL resources including MeLCat
so libraries and Michigan residents get the most benefit from the program, the Library of Michigan has contracted with EPIC MRA
to do a study on the Michigan eLibrary.

The study includes a phone survey to the general public, an online questionnaire for library administrators and staff, and an online questionnaire for the public. The online survey link is below.

Please respond to the library online survey. We need to hear from as many library staff and library users - public library patrons, teachers, university students and faculty, K-12 students - as possible.

MeLCat and MeL Databases Up and Running

MeL server upgrades are complete and MeLCat and MeL Databases are back up.

MeLCat will be down all day on Tuesday August 4th.
The downtime will allow for server upgrades to MeLCat.

MeL Databases downtime - Tuesday August 4th

MeL Databases will be unavailable via off campus access on
Tuesday August 4th. The downtime will allow for upgrades to
the MeL server.

MeLCat Update

Kalamazoo College students, faculty, and staff now can place multiple MeLCat requests without having to re-enter their home library, user name, and password each time. You will see a message instructing you to logoff when done. It is important to remember to do this when using MeLCat at a public computer. The system will automatically end your session if it's been inactive for 7 minutes.

MeLCat Unavailable Wednesday April 15th

No MeLCat delivery on Monday, February 18th

Because of the President's Day holiday, MeLCat will not be making deliveries on Monday, February 18th. The system will still be available for requesting materials. The regular delivery schedule will resume on Wednesday, February 20th.

Bye Bye Barcode! Use Your K College Username and Password with MeLCat and Ariadne!

Current Kalamazoo College students, faculty, and staff no longer need to use their name and 14-digit barcode number to use features of Ariadne, log in to research databases from off campus, or to request materials from MeLCat. Users now will be prompted for their K College username and password!

This affects:

• logging in to research databases from off campus
• requesting books and other materials from MeLCat
  
• requesting items from storage (in Ariadne)
  
• logging into Your Ariadne Account to see your patron record
  (view fines, checked out items, etc.)

In MeLCat, the system will ask you for your:

• Campus ID# (this is your K College USERNAME)
• Password (this is your K College PASSWORD)

MeLCat has a New Look!

The Library of Michigan has launched MeL ReMix, a new design for MeLCat and the Michigan Electronic Library. You will see a new MeL logo, colors, and site navigation.

MeLCat Scheduled Downtime - Feb. 14-15

MeLCat will be UNAVILABLE for searching and requesting after 9pm on Wednesday, Feb. 14 until sometime on Thursday, Feb. 15. We expect the outage to last about 24 hours, so please plan your research accordingly.

MeLCat Now Includes WMU Libraries

The MeLCat Catalog (http://elibrary.mel.org/search) now includes records from Western Michigan University's libraries.

This means that current Kalamazoo College students, faculty and staff no longer have to trek to Western to get books -- they can order them straight from MeLCat and the items will be delivered to the Kalamazoo College Library circulation desk. (These items should also be returned to the Kalamazoo College circulation desk.) Delivery of MeLCat items normally takes between two and seven days.

However, this service is only in effect for books -- articles and online resources must still be obtained by physically going to the Libraries on Western's campus. Also, if time is of the essence and you need an item right away, Kalamazoo College students, faculty, and staff can also go to Western's libraries to check out materials.

MeLCat Unavailable February 1

MeLCat, the combined catalog of over 80 Michigan libraries, will be unavailable due to a software upgrade on Wednesday, February 1. Kalamazoo College patrons will not be able to search, place requests, or renew items on this day. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY! This upgrade is being performed at the central server in Lansing and affects all MeLCat libraries.
