Read a Banned Book!
As Ray Bradbury, author of Fahrenheit 451, said, "You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them."
The American Library Association has named September 27th - October 4th as Banned Books week. Observed since 1982, this annual ALA event reminds Americans not to take this democratic freedom for granted.
For a second consecutive year, Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell's award-winning "And Tango Makes Three," a children's book about two male penguins caring for an orphaned egg, tops the list of the 10 Most Challenged Books of 2007. More information about the annual event and lists of other banned books can be found at the American Library Association site.
