Library Systems Available

In the wake of yesterday's power outage, Ariadne and all Library databases are once again working properly! If you have questions or problems connecting to Ariadne or a Library database, please contact Reference at reference@kzoo.edu or 337-7152.

Library Closing Early and Resources Unavailable Wednesday, July 25

Due to the power outage on campus from the Consumers Electric telephone pole project, the Library will close at 4:15pm on Wednesday, July 25.

In addition, the Library's catalog (Ariadne) and the Library's online databases will also be unavailable after 4pm. These resources will be up and running again as soon as possible after power returns to campus.

Please be sure to log off and power down your desktop computer and printer before the campus power is shut off so that your operating system and files are not adversely affected.

Due to the outage, some computing services may be unavailable, including CARS, ARO, the Ariadne Library system, and possibly incoming/outgoing phone calls. Security and emergency phones will function. E-mail and web services will not be affected.

ILLiad Maintenance on Monday, July 9

ILLiad, the Kalamazoo College Interlibrary Loan system, will be getting a new look and functionality on Monday, July 9. Service may be interrupted temporarily during the hours of 8am through 10am. Please bear with us as we make these changes to improve our services to you!

MLA, PsycInfo, and RILM now on CSA Illumina

On July 1, 2007 three of our databases (MLA International Bibliography, PsycInfo, and RILM) moved to the CSA Illumina platform from FirstSearch. This means these databases will look and search a little differently, but the content remains the same.

Why is this happening?

The Kalamazoo College Library subscribes to these three databases through the Michigan Library Consortium (MLC), which negotiates licensing and price. This year the price of the FirstSearch platform to these databases was significantly higher than for CSA Illumina, so MLC will be licensing them through CSA. In an effort to maintain our current FirstSearch platform, Kalamazoo College Librarians investigated the cost of keeping these databases with FirstSearch, but the 69% increase in subscription price over last year's price made the CSA platform the only affordable option.

Library CLOSED on July 4th

The Kalamazoo College Library will be CLOSED on Wednesday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day.

Hours for the week of July 2nd are:
