Cool Tool of the Week: Email Citations and Documents from Databases

Did you know that most online databases allow you to email citations and full text documents to yourself? You can compile a list of citations or send full text documents to yourself using the "email" feature.

In some databases, you can click on a button that says "Email" to send your self the citation.

Here are examples of "Email" buttons:


In others, you must first "save" the citations you like, and then email them.

Cool Tools of the Week: TinyURL and LookLeap

Ever receive an email from someone with a long and complicated URL? Ever have that URL break because it appears on two lines and you have to cut and paste it back together? Try TinyURL or LookLeap. These tools help you manage long and unwieldy URLs, turning them into short, friendly URLs.
  • TinyURL will create a URL that never expires, and you can put a shortcut on your toolbar.

Talk on Japanese novelist Nagai Kafu at WMU

The Soga Japan Center at WMU is pleased to announce a talk on Nagai Kafu by Dr. Rachel Hutchison, Assistant Professor of Japanese Studies at Colgate University, New York.

The talk will deal with the famous Japanese novelist Nagai Kafu, who lived in Kalamazoo in 1905 while studying at Kalamazoo College. He wrote part of his American Stories, a major classic of modern Japanese literature, while living on Elm Street in the Stuart neighborhood.

Noise Reduction Headsets Available for Quiet Study

There are three pair of noise reduction headsets now available in the Library for students who find Upjohn Library Commons a bit noisy for quiet study. Just ask for them at the circulation desk, and you can check them out for four hours!

Rare Book Room Exhibit: Ornithological Works of John Gould

The A.M. Todd Rare Book Room is offering an exhibit entitled "Gould's Passion: The Ornithological Works of John Gould." This exhibit showcases some of the most interesting and beautiful works in the Rare Book Room.

Hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 1 PM to 3 PM until March 8; other times by appointment. Visit more than once, as the plates displayed will change over time. For more information, contact Paul Smithson (smithson@kzoo.edu or 337-7147).

Encyclopaedia Judaica Now Available Online

The Gale Virtual Reference Library now includes an online version of the Encyclopaedia Judaica, 2007 edition. The updated edition of this work features more than 21,000 entries on Jewish life, culture, history, and religion, written by Israeli, American and European subject specialists.

The Library also has the 2007 edition in print, which supercedes the 1972 edition of this set.
