Discontinuation of Westlaw Database

After December 31, 2005, West Publishing Corporation will no longer offer the legal database Westlaw Campus; therefore, the Kalamazoo College Library will not be able to continue its subscription. Fortunately, we already subscribe to much of the information in Westlaw Campus through the LexisNexis database. A comparison of the two databases can be found here: http://www.lib.iastate.edu/commons/hri460/notes/comparison.pdf. If you have questions about the discontinuation of Westlaw Campus, please contact the Reference Department at reference@kzoo.edu or 337-7152.

Move of Audio-Visual Materials

Videos, DVD's, CD's, and tapes from the library in Hicks have been moved to the new Upjohn Library Commons building. You can still check out these materials! Please request them through Ariadne (http://ariadne.kzoo.edu/) for the remainder of the quarter (they will be retrieved every two hours, the same as books). There will be no disruption to faculty requests for videos to be used in class (contact kmedia@kzoo.edu or sanders@kzoo.edu as usual). Thanks for your patience!

Library Move Update for Faculty and Staff

The Information Services staff is working hard to complete the library renovation project, and in order to move into our new building, the Library will be closed from December 5th through 9th.

During that week, Circulation, Reference, and Media Services will be available via email for assistance with Winter Quarter class preparation and Reserve readings. Library staff will deliver MeLCat and ILL materials that arrive that week to your offices. You may return materials to the new drop box on the Academy Street side of the Library. Reference materials will move during Finals Week (November 28th to December 2nd). Please let us know if you will need access to Reference materials any time during that week, and we will retrieve them for your use. If you have additional needs, please contact us by December 5th and we will work with you.

During the actual move, the HelpDesk will be closed for five hours on Thursday, December 8th, from 10 to 3 p.m.

Circulation, Reference, Help Desk and Media Desk will be open in the new Upjohn Library Commons from December 12th through the 22nd. The Registrar is scheduling classes in the Library for Winter Quarter!

The new Upjohn Library Commons will open officially on January 3rd, 2006! We invite you to tour the new building on December 2nd, from 2 to 4 pm, the same day as the Hodge House Holiday Party. Please come by for a preview of the building on your way to the Holiday Party, which begins at 3 and goes until 5 pm.

Thank you,

Lisa Palchick and the Information Services staff
