Library Under Construction
The excavation of the library expansion site will begin early
next week and will take three to five weeks.
The City of Kalamazoo has modified their traffic control
strategy during this three to five week excavation period.
Effective early next week Academy Street will become one-way
East from Monroe Street to West Michigan. This temporary
modification to the traffic control strategy will minimize
the damage to Academy Street.
The trucks removing soil from the expansion site will be
driving down Academy Street from the construction site,
will turn left on Acker Lane and right on West Main Street.
Every attempt will be made to maintain the angled parking on
Acker but please be cautious when walking in the Acker Lane
area.
Once the excavation is complete, we will resume the traffic
control strategy that was in place this week and provided
two-way traffic on Academy except for the Bulkley Street to
Thompson Street block.
The topsoil that will be removed from the expansion site will
be brought down to Markin Park and will be used to fill our
new park area.
Thank you for your cooperation.
