Rare Book Room Program Tues. May 5th

The A.M. Todd Rare Book Room presents "Napoleon's Egypt,"
an exhibit of an original edition of the monumental 19th century text "Description de l'Egypte."

In connection with this exhibition, the A.M. Todd Rare Book Room
is hosting a special event on May 5th at 4:00pm in Upjohn Library Commons, Room 308.

Drs. David Barclay, History, and Kathleen Smith, French, will speak briefly about the exhibit. Dr. Barclay will present the history of Bonaparte's Egyptian expedition; Dr. Smith will talk about the phenomenon of "orientalism," the West's cultural construction of
the non-West, which originated in part with this expedition.
The presentations will be followed by a visit to the exhibit
with Mr. Paul Smithson, its curator.

Exhibit dates: March 30th - April 10th, April 27th - May 15th, and
May 26th - June 5th, 2009
Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
and by appointment.
