All Services Continue During Renovation
Kalamazoo College Library is undergoing a Renovation and Expansion Project that will provide a state-of-the-art facility for students, staff and faculty. The new addition will increase the total building space by 37,450 square feet, a 72% increase. The new building, called the Upjohn Library Commons, will open in January 2006.
All Information Services functions will continue during the Upjohn Library Commons Renovation and Expansion Project. Curricular support equipment will be available for classroom use and computer labs will remain open as usual. Library resources may be obtained through several methods. Much of the library’s collection is accessible in an on-campus storage facility, and requested items are retrieved every two hours from 9:00am to 9:00pm. The Kalamazoo College Library also has an extensive collection of online journals and full text resources available to students 24 hours a day. In addition, students can access items through Western Michigan University's libraries, the InMICH service (a resource sharing program for several Michigan libraries), and Interlibrary Loan, all services available free of charge.
Information Services staff and resources will be available in various spaces on campus throughout the Renovation and Expansion Project. The Library (Reference, Circulation, Periodicals, Interlibrary Loan, Technical Services, and computers for research) will be in the Quadstop and Games Room on the first floor of Hicks Center. Students will also have quiet study spaces available in the Stone Room on the third floor of Hicks Center. Administrative Computing, Systems and Networking, Media Reservations, and the College Archives will be located in the Publications Room on the first floor in Hicks. Media Distribution, the Computer Help Desk, and PC Preparation and Repair will be located in Old Welles East (the “phoneathon room”) on the third floor of Hicks Center. The Graphics Lab, Video Production, and Web Services will reside in the Carriage House next to Humphrey House.
