| Excerpts
from Kelly Roshon's Letters Home:
My
German grammar class really isn't as bad as I thought it would be.
We play a lot of games and we get to learn about whatever we want.
Our professor, Gudrun, always asks us what topics we are interested
in learning about and what kinds of grammar issues we need to work
on. We also watch movies every now and then.
Gudrun
is definitely not like other German professors I've had! One day,
she took us to a small bar and bought us all some fancy liquor shots.
She even bought one for herself and we all took some shots together.
So when this happened, I thought it was a little strange... but
wait -- it gets better. This morning she invited us all over to
her apartment to cook us brunch. This turned into an all-day affair,
which was fine because the food was amazing and her apartment was
incredible. So then she started talking about how she noticed that
one of her earring holes had closed up and she had been trying to
find someone to re-pierce it for her. She said that she asked her
"strongest" friend to do it for her and she wasn't able
to actually push a pin through her ear to create the hole again.
So I told her that I would do it for her sometime if she wanted.
She got really excited and ran and got her earring and some ice.
I didn't really think she was going to let me pierce her ear. Keep
in mind this lady has got to be at least 50 or 55 years old. And
I definitely pierced her ear this morning on her balcon, using a
safety pin and a potato. I swear she is not from this planet.
Last
night I also ran in the first Erlangen "NachtLauf." It
was a night run that was about 7-8 miles that went through paved
trails lit by tiki candles. It was really fun and interesting to
be in a race in another country. There were two bars at the end
of the race were a ton of runners went immediately following their
run.
