Title:
Medical Assistant
Immediate
supervisor: Director, Student Health Center
Work schedule: Part time, September to June
Clinic duties
- Patient prep for Physician Assistant—patient vitals and chief compliant.
- Give vaccinations under direction.
- Manage Student Health Center hazardous waste. Call for pick up as needed.
- Order and stock laboratory equipment.
- Regularly check for outdated medications and supplies. Keep updated inventory.
- Monitor refrigerator for optimal vaccine temperature.
- Update medication handout book as needed.
- Stock and track self care station supplies.
- Make ice packs and keep adequate supply in freezer.
- Maintain stock in exam rooms.
- Order supplies including some medications, condoms and vitamins.
- Weekly report to Sentinal.
Front office duties
- As front desk back up staff for Student Health Center, ensure appropriate appointment scheduling in person and via telephone through effective rapport, accurate triage (urgent vs. routine health care needs) following established guidelines and clear communications.
- Maintain system for pulling and filing charts before and after scheduled appointments; prepare charts to ensure completion before visits and check for completion before filing.
- Verify completion and accurately file documents such as progress notes, lab work, immunization records, insurance information and referral records.
- Enter accurate ICD 9 codes on clinic statements; provide receipts to clients.
- Process requests for receipts and statements; provide clients with information for insurance claim submission.
- Coordinate collection of claim information; provide accurate chart and computer records of all clinic services.
- Provide accurate daily accounting of billing, receipts and deposits.
- Use existing software (PyraMed) to accurately and timely enter data.
- Create relevant up-to-date bulletin boards.
- General office duties including: copy forms, picking up and distributing mail, referrals, etc.
Required skills, education and experience
- Medical Assistant degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated dedication to providing caring customer service.
- Must be flexible and willing to learn and adapt to changing work processes. Must be willing to take direction as well as to take initiative and independent follow through.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality, professionalism and integrity.
- Ability to think analytically, prioritize, work under pressure and respond appropriately in emergencies. Must be able to exercise good judgment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Very strong organization and project coordination skills; demonstrated ability to stay focused and perform a large variety of interrelated tasks with accuracy and attention to detail, while remaining flexible and accommodating new priorities and frequent multiple interruptions.
- Strong time management skills and ability to work energetically and effectively in fast paced environment.
- Must be self-learner with strong clerical and PC skills including competency with Microsoft products and demonstrated ability to learn and apply new software such as PyraMED, using electronic manuals and customer support tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Physical requirements include ability to work in an office and clinic environment with extensive use of computer and telephone; to read, write and handle paper documents; to move from room to room within the health center; to move between campus buildings pick up mail and supplies; to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
- Must be dependable and use good judgment and discretion in the handling of confidential information. This position is essential in maintaining record integrity and confidentiality for the institution.
