Title:
Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations
Immediate
supervisor: Vice President for College Advancement
Nature of duties: The Director of Corporate/Foundation Relations plans and implements strategies to increase grants from foundations and corporations for Kalamazoo College priorities
Responsibilities:
Manages a portfolio of foundation and corporate prospects for both national and local funders and conducts face-to-face fund raising with corporate and foundation representatives.
Proactively identifies and researches appropriate new and existing foundation and corporate prospects for priority projects and programs and determines the best cultivation and solicitation strategies. Works effectively with faculty and administrators to develop and submit proposals.
Independently manages proposal initiatives, develops solicitation strategies and writes compelling proposals that match the funding organization’s mission and purpose.
Ensures compliance with donor expectations regarding programmatic and financial reporting.
Maintains strong relationships with corporate and foundation donors to continue and increase giving.
Establishes strong working relationships with the College community, including the President, senior leadership, and faculty. Works collaboratively with the Director of Faculty Grants & Institutional Research on proposals to public sources such as federal, state, and local agencies.
Stays abreast of trends in corporate, foundation, and public funding.
Works as a key member of the Advancement team in the planning and implementation of the College’s campaigns.
Maintains ongoing communication with the College’s academic community.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Three or more years of progressive, successful experience in corporate and foundation fund raising with success measured by actual funds raised through grant dollars and corporate solicitation, preferably in a higher education setting.
Experience working directly with program officers of local and national foundations.
Superior writing skills, including grant proposals and letters, as well as excellent interpersonal, presentation, persuasion, and negotiating skills.
Knowledge of and enthusiasm for a liberal arts education.
Energetic, ambitious, goal oriented, hands-on and creative, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Ability to build a budget in line with corporate or foundation guidelines for projects and programs for which the College is seeking support.
Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, and fund-raising software.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Willingness and ability to travel.
Willingness and ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours.
A valid Michigan driver’s license and a driving record in accordance with College policy.
