Coach's Note:
Kalamazoo College Hockey is a program that continues to grow as the team heads into its third season. Through the first two seasons we have seen more downs than ups, but through it all we have maintained a positive attitude that will the provide the foundation of future success.
The coaching staff has done a wonderful job cultivating a team concept that is hard to put into words; every game it is continually impressive to see these young student athletes fighting through adversity to give everything they have and leave it all on the ice. The job of the coaches is to make a competitive program within the parameters of a rigid academic institution. We want these students to leave this program and this school with the positive attitude that working hard to achieve at a high level sometimes means that they will fail before they succeed. The coaches want these student athletes to learn there is a price that needs to be paid to be successful, and that success is rarely given to a person but earned. After two hard seasons, success this year and the years to follow will be rewarding and memorable for all the players that have come through this young program.
When these student athletes leave the grounds of Kalamazoo College and the rink where they played battles against traditional rivals and new grudge match games against new teams, they will have with memories of their time spent in school. We want those memories to be of how good it felt to be with good friend, to spend time with their teammates, to win a close game late, and to pass a class that they thought was to hard pass. We want those memories to sweeter to them, knowing that it was not easy but a challenge. That they were successful because they wanted, they worked for, and they would not give up until they achieved their goals.
