The Art and Science of Medicine
HHMI Summer Programs at Kalamazoo College

June 22-28, 2008

The Art and Science of Medicine is a residential workshop hosted by Kalamazoo College, funded by The Howard Hughes Medical Institute. It is intended for high-school sophomores, juniors and seniors that have, through their coursework and extracurricular activities, indicated a desire to pursue a career in medicine. The purpose of the program is to give these young students information that may help them make informed decisions in the future. This is an all expense paid workshop in which the students will receive a $250 stipend upon successful completion of the program.

During their time in the program students will receive information about the requirements for entrance into medical and other medically related professional programs to what life will be like as a practicing medical professional. Additionally, participants will meet and converse with various health professionals on and off campus and conduct several hands-on laboratory experiments.

Applications are no longer being accepted for the 2008 program.
In addition to the completed student application form, two letters of recommendation are required: one from the student's high school counselor and one from a teacher. Teachers and counselors may fill out the online recommendation form or print out the form and mail it in.
