Outlook Express and other installable software
If you own a computer, you can use an email client
to view and send mail. Popular email clients include Microsoft
Outlook Express, Mozilla
Thunderbird, and Mac
Mail. These are called "thick clients" because
unlike web-based access, you need to install some software on
your computer to use them. They offer the most versatility
and richest feature set of all the ways you can check your mail
- both POP3 and IMAP are supported
- incoming mail server name (POP3 or IMAP): kmail.kzoo.edu
- encryption is not supported
- TLS is not supported
- from on-campus locations (connected directly to our network) use the SMTP server: smtp.kzoo.edu
- from off-campus locations - most ISPs and wireless data providers provide an SMTP (outgoing mail) server for their subscribers,
and that's the server you should use. If you have internet service through
Charter Cable in the Kalamazoo area, your SMTP server may
be smtp.gha.chartermi.net. Check with your ISP for more information.
- if your ISP doesn't provide an SMTP server but does allow SMTP access,
use smtp.kzoo.edu
