Pine ~ Off-Campus with Mac OS X

  1. Open Terminal (open your Hard Drive, open the Applications folder, open the Utilities folder, double-click "Terminal")
  2. type "ssh k04zx01@henson.kzoo.edu" (no quotes) where k04zx01 is your K College email username, and press Return
  3. If you are connecting to henson for the first time, you will be prompted to accept and save the host key by typing the word "yes" and pressing enter.
  4. You will be prompted for a password. Enter your K College email password and press Return
  5. type the word "pine" (no quotes) and press Return
  6. if you have not used pine recently, you may encounter a greeting message Type the letter "E" to exit the greeting
  7. pine's main menu is displayed, in a configuration that should look similar to the image at right
  8. You are now using pine. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move the selection up and down, and use your Enter key to make a selection. Other commands are available as described in the bottom two rows of text on the screen, and in the main menu. For instance, to view an index of the messages in your inbox, type the letter "I" for "index." When you are finished, press the letter Q to quit. After pine closes, type "exit" (no quotes) to disconnect.
