Student Health Center

Insurance

All students are strongly encouraged to have health insurance. We recommend that you review your health insurance coverage and become aware of special requirements and provisions of your plan, such as reimbursement policies, in-network versus out-of-network providers, and prescription coverage.

If you/your student are/is not covered by parental insurance, or that coverage is geographically limited and will not cover medical expenses in Kalamazoo, we encourage you to consider the following:

  1. Request reciprocity from your insurance company to allow coverage with our affiliated office, Bronson Family Practice Downtown (Bronson Family Practice can be reached at 269-341-8282).
  2. Consider purchasing the local student health insurance policy, administered by First Agency (underwritten by Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Company). Brochure and Enrollment Form or call First Agency at 269-381-6630 for details. First Agency will reimburse for some visits with a completed Claim Form.
Your health insurance provider’s reimbursement policies and preferred providers, pharmacies, laboratories, etc. should be well understood by the student prior to arrival at “K.”  Each student will need to carry a copy of their insurance card with them and have knowledge of their prescription co-pay amount.

Kalamazoo College Student Health Center does not bill insurance. There is no fee for most services at the Student Health Center (see Cost List for more information). Charges can be paid by cash, check, or posted to student account. Students are given a receipt at the time of service that is ready for submission to their insurance company. There may be a $5 charge for replacement receipts.

Outside lab tests will be billed to the insurance company by Bronson Hospital Laboratory. We provide Bronson with your insurance information, so please be sure to update us with changes.
