"I give because the way K practices liberal arts learning is more likely than other educational options to create citizens who ask questions and who question any answers that include violence and injustice." Jim VanSweden, Director, College Communications
Light the Campus, Brighten the Community
Faculty and Staff Annual Giving Campaign
March 11 – April 11, 2013
K is more than a college. It’s a force for change in the larger community and abroad. Gifts to the College help light the way for the K Community to create that change.
Our gifts through the Kalamazoo College Fund make a big difference in the lives of both students and community members.
K relies on gifts to increase student scholarships and student diversity
Scholarships help attract students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Scholarships provide all students access to the type of education K offers.
K is a local nonprofit organization that:
- Supports 685 local jobs
- Educates thousands of young leaders
- Produces over 30,000 hours of volunteer service at 40 community organizations annually
- Is in the 99th percentile nationally for its impact on students′ skills in written communication, problem-solving, and analytical reasoning
K relies on grants
Foundations often look at faculty and staff giving when reviewing grant applications from colleges and universities. Our gifts show external stakeholders that we invest in ourselves.
As a Kalamazoo College faculty or staff member, you can support the College’s mission by contributing to an area you’re most passionate about:
- Scholarships
- Faculty excellence
- Greatest needs
Our gifts keep the lights on, but they also shine a light on the work we do. Our gifts send a message of confidence to alumni, friends, students, parents, corporate partners, and foundations.
Please support the work of the College with a gift of any size.

On April 12, 2013, luminaries lit up Dalton Theatre. Each of the 148 luminaries recognized a faculty or staff member who made a gift during the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
