Hardy Fuchs spent his career at Kalamazoo College as a professor of German, and also chairman of the department. His passion for education extended beyond the classroom to the soccer field. Dr. Fuchs was head coach of K’s men’s soccer team for 32 years, owning a career record of 343-137-36, and an MIAA record of 254-70-21. He led the Hornets to 12 MIAA championships and six NCAA III Tournament appearances. He coached eight MIAA MVPs, nine All-Americans, and one NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient. Dr. Fuchs’ accolades also include a 1988 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year award. Dr. Fuchs merged his academic and athletic backgrounds by writing for Soccer America, a weekly soccer magazine, and was a member of the editorial board of Soccer Journal, the official publication of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
