The infrastructure improvements contained within the campaign are vital to educational excellence. The improvements we have made, and will make, are part of addressing the needs of the whole student – mind, spirit, and body.
Prior to this campaign, improvements to Upjohn Library Commons created a place for the life of the mind. In this campaign, The Weimer K. Hicks Center renovation created the “hearth” of the campus – a warm, inviting place for connection and rejuvenation. The new Athletic Field Complex kicked off projects to address the physical needs of our students – those who participate in collegiate sport as well as those who are looking for intramural competition and other activities. With both of these projects completed, we already have seen increases in enrollment, an important aspect in the competitive higher education landscape – a real world issue in sustaining an excellent K education.
We look forward to the completion in May 2014 of the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership, which will be an architectural landmark for Kalamazoo and southwest Michigan. And we have made headway on the funds required to build a fitness and wellness center and replace our aging natatorium.
The Campaign for Kalamazoo College calls for $34.5 million for infrastructure improvements, and of that total we have raised more than $25 million.
