Endowing a fund
for visiting scholars and lectures is central to the success
of the educational mission of Kalamazoo College. President
Wilson-Oyelaran is pleased to announce the creation of the
Donald C. Flesche Visiting Scholars and Lectureship Endowment.
The creation of this endowment will help ensure that the intimate
conversations that take place among fellow learners on campus
include the very best scholars in the world.
Don's teaching and his students' learning
were shaped by the inclusion of visiting scholars and lecturers
into his classroom. It is extraordinarily fitting for us
to honor Don's work as a teacher through this endowment.
The Donald C. Flesche Visiting Scholars
and Lecturers Endowment aims to expand and enhance the learning
experience for everyone at Kalamazoo College. While the
initial threshold of $100,000 has been raised to launch
this endowment with an anticipated date of 2007 for the
inaugural lecture to be delivered, Kalamazoo College welcomes
additional gifts to augment our ability to bring renowned
lecturers to campus.
If you wish to honor Dr. Flesche, who gave a great deal
to the Kalamazoo College community as an outstanding teacher
and as the "Voice of the Hornets," or to invest
in the future of Kalamazoo College by making a gift to this
endowment, please click here on the "make
a gift to the Flesche Endowment" link. If you wish
to make a pledge to this endowment, please click here on
the "pledge
card for the Flesche Endowment" link to print,
fill out, and send your pledge to Kalamazoo College.

Provost Greg Mahler writes, "The most important
resource of any institution of higher education is its faculty.
While colleges and universities are constantly in search of support
for new generations of technology, building programs, and innovations
in educational and student life programs, the single most important
resource that any institution can offer to its students is a strong
and vibrant faculty. At the end of the day it is the faculty who
shape the institution's academic offerings, inspire students, guide
their intellectual growth, serve as role models, and help students
grow as scholars and valuable members of society and who help students
understand the true meaning of leadership."
"It is crucially important that our students
have the opportunity to meet and grapple with complex issues that
will have to be addressed by leaders of the future. Enlightened
world leaders of the future will be those individuals who have
had the opportunity to consider and reflect upon an extraordinarily
broad range of issues, and it falls upon colleges and universities
today to see to it that our students have the opportunity to be
exposed to complex questions and challenges in a setting that
will permit full discussion and analysis. In this way, The Donald
C. Flesche Visiting Scholars and Lecturers Endowment will make
a significant and ongoing contribution to the Kalamazoo College
community and the lives of our students for generations to come."
