Burr Oak Trees
(Gale Alsins has compiled a listing of “urban oaks” in downtown Kalamazoo)

Description: An area bounded by Academy, John,
Pioneer, and Forest, Wall and Upjohn Drive, Oakland, Davis, Lovell, Merrill,
and Howard Streets
Why it should be preserved: The trees are very old (many greater than 200 years) and beautiful. As noted at one time, Kalamazoo was known as the “Burr Oak City”!
Other Comments: I realize that all of the trees can’t
be saved forever, but we should be conscious of their value?
Type of Property: Historic, Scenic Viewpoint
