Asylum Oaks
(The northeast corner of Parkview and Drake Roads)

Description: Lake woods and fields
Why it should be preserved: The large oaks are the closest things remaining that approximate the “oak openings” habitat that was well represented in the area before white settlement. The area is home to many non-human species, including at least some species of concern. It provides a unique opportunity within the city to view nature.
Other Comments: The “oak openings” oak savanna could
be restored if undergrowth is removed and the area is burnt to maintain the
grasslands. Buffers around the area are
needed to protect its uniqueness.
Type of Property: Historic, Scenic View
